Successful 4L80E/NP205 Swap into my 1979 Dually
After finding the ultra rare 1991 4L80E/NP205 combo I decided to take the plunge and put it into my 1979 crew dually 4x4 to replace the TH400/NP203.
My reason for this post is that I could not find a good start to finish working model for this type of project. I have wrenched for many years and I do all my own mechanical, body, painting, electrical, fab, etc....but I found the computer controlled tranny putting me outside the box and comfort zone. So I looked on the net for a good guide and just found bits and pieces to put together. So now that I got it all in and working, just need some driveshafts made and we be rollin'. I took several pics along the way and I will post a complete start to finish build that a backyard wrencher can follow. I'll list the good the bad and the ugly of what it took to complete. I'll have it up sometime this week.

I am a firm believer in the bulletproof 4L80e, especially in a high HP/TQ and/or towing in overdrive apps.

The only thing different is you need a trans controler depending brand some are easy to set up some are a nightmare but well worth it in the end.On your driveshafts call any big diesel shop most can make you a driveshaft today.

I'm glad to see you got it fully done with no headaches. And using all gm parts made it easier i have seen some tcase adapters that didn't fit with out some grinding.
