Frt Leaf sprg 4x4 help
Here are pics of my current front leaf springs. As always she does fine off road, but on the Hiways, she as a small chatter type bounce/vibration. The driver's side leaf has gone concave and the right side is flat. The rear sets have plenty of spring and have a normal look. Are the front leafs supposed to be flat or are these dead? I had them worked on two years ago, but I think they have lost their spring. Should I replace? I have the std "highboy" suspension. I'm running 255 85r16 tires and I don't have any clearance problems. Thanks in advance.

Re: Frt Leaf sprg 4x4 help
Chatter is not likely to be from the springs. Most likely from a warped rotor or bad tire or balance problem. However.. your springs should be about flat for stock. I would take it back to whoever "worked" on your springs and get that fixed. Also look into a stabilizer. They help a bunch on bigger than stock tires and stock.

Re: Frt Leaf sprg 4x4 help
Never saw a stock setup with that many springs.
They are flat or negative arch when stock. And I agree, springs dont cause chatter or vibration. Mabey a wore out shock, spring bushings, tire out of balance, loose or bad wheel bearing, ball joint, etc. Jack it up and start pulling , prying, and wiggling stuff till you find the culprit.

Re: Frt Leaf sprg 4x4 help
Shocks are 1yr old Rancho 5000. I'll check the wheel balance and then start playing. I'll take it back to the spring place and have them check out the difference between the two sides.

Agreed. Those 5-leaf springs look about the same as my 2.5" Softrides.... about the same gap to the rubber bumpstops too, though I think my gaps may be a bit larger.

Re: Frt Leaf sprg 4x4 help
youve got red poly bushings, those are definately aftermarket. and a little wore out.
describe the noise in ten words or less lol. and just because those shocks are a year old doesnt mean they are still good. |

Re: Frt Leaf sprg 4x4 help
With 5 leafs in that driver side pack I'm surprised it has gone negative....take it apart and see it a leaf if cracked/broken. The stock 2 and 3 leaf packs I've seen have gone negative, however. I have a 4 leaf pack that is flat.
Check your ball joints, btw....all of them. Rebalance your wheels and, remember, you're riding on MTRs!

Did you swap tires from front to back to rule out a bad tire or bad rim?
