Re: Where is the torsion bar 62 gmc?

Post #3 on the following thread shows the location of the T Bars, and how to adjust the tension. Before turning the adjusting bolts it is recommended to soak them in penetrating oil first, and jack up the front crossmember to remove tension on the bars will make them easier to turn and less chance of stripping the threads. I'd suggest turn the bolts counting a turn or two, then lower and bounce the truck to see where it settles. Jack it back up and do it again until it rides where you want.

Be advised if they are lowered too far, the adjusting levers at the rear of the bar hang down far enough to become a safety hazard. Also, too little tension and the front suspension will have very little weight capacity.

Re: Where is the torsion bar 62 gmc?

First be really careful trying to slam a truck wih TB's. I fyou get under the truck you will see two long bars connected to a s-shaped brace under the cab. That it.

You losen the bid a** bolt slowly and the stance will change. IF these have not been fooled with in years (as most of our have) you will need to use a LOT of very good penetrating oil (Kroil ot P-B blaster) let soak for a day hit it again let sit and then losen the bolts. YOu will be SOL if you break them as they are not re-popped. see pic.

For some season I was under the impression that only chevy's had torsion bars. Am I wrong?

Depending on how low you wanna go, remove the bump stops first and try to keep the control arms parallel to the ground. If you go too low you will be riding on the stops, you will have crazy bump steer, and a super bouncy ride. Also if you're going lower profile tires that will help as well. If you loosen the bolts too much they will be an inch from the ground and you will have major issues if you screw them up. I have 235/75/15 tires on mine and I found a happy medium at 29 inches from ground to bottom of fenders.
