Re: brake booster questions
I got a factory power booster from ebay. ended up having to rebuild the master cylinder. found out that autozone had a replacement set for $150. other than factory correct I would have saved money to just buy it new.

Re: brake booster questions
are you retaining 4-wheel drums or planning to upgrade to any disks?
if planning om 4 wheel drums, I'd go with a 67 C10 dual res master and booster combo (make sure to buy them together to ensure you are buying a power master cylinder, there is a difference (shallow hole in power/deep hole in non-power mc piston) (or, if maintaining 4 wheel drums, I'd certainly check ANY 66 or prior truck for that rare find of a booster - IF you're going to just retain the stock single reservoir master cylinder. But personally, I'd upgrade to the dual res mc just for the sake of safety). If planning on front disks/rear drums, I'd grab a master/booster combo off of a mid-70's impala or something like that. Regardless, try to get any prop valves, etc and the immdediate mc area brakes lines also. and buy Capt Fab's bracket for a few $ and you're set. Might also help to read this thread, it shows the bracket and it has some other mc/booster combo options: http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...d.php?t=347484 |

Re: brake booster questions
Go to Auto Zone and buy new rebuilt that has a lifetime warranty.
I did what you are wanting to do, picked up a booster and master cylinder from the bone yard. It worked a couple of weeks and then failed on me. Just yesterday bought the Master Cylinder and the booster for $131.00. Cheap insurance for lifetime warranty if you ask me.

Re: brake booster questions
I have a rule of thumb. I never cut corners on steering, suspension, or brakes. If you want a m/c with a long service life go to a good parts house and get a new name brand unit. If you want to be returning it on warranty every couple or three months get rebuilt junk from O'Reilly's, Autozone, etc. Costs a little more but well worth it for the peace of mind.
