Re: 73-87 front crossmember on a 67 c20 bolt on?

I have a 67 3/4 with front drum brake, does a 73-87 front crossmember with all the steering linkage is a direct fit? And can i use a 88 and up crossmember?

The frame changed in 1988 when the General did a revamp on the truck for the model year 1988. The 1988 frames were boxedall the way past the gas tank and the front crossmembers were welded into the frame, so no they will not work the same as the 87 and back lower "boltin" crossmembers. Jim

73-87 is a bolt in swap.
You might have to drill a couple holes.
People have been doing this swap for many years.

The 73-87 steering box might need some adapter brackets because your 67 frame doesn't have a dimple in it to clear the later model steering box.
Member CaptainFab sells those adapters.

Re: 73-87 front crossmember on a 67 c20 bolt on?

I used an 85 front suspension on my 67 frame. I had to widen two holes and drill two and everything else bolted in. As Mr lolife said you will have to consider the non dimpled 67 frame.

The Captain Fab bracket is a great product but I cut a small incision on the top and bottom of my frame, laid a piece of pipe on the location and whacked the pipe with a rather large hammer.

Then I welded the now closed gap back up, some grinding and paint. I don't think anyone could tell it from factory now. I also had to grind a little on the bracket where the core support mounts to the frame. It really was not that hard of a job. I am sure you could do it.

the disc brakes on 88 and newer are smaller (thinner), so stick with 71-87 for upgrading from front drum to front disc.
