Unknown Tow Hook Design ?

My son brought these to me this morning and asked me about them since they look somewhat "similar" to the 69-72 style hooks on my '71 4x4. I've never seen these before at all. Seen a lot of tow hooks but never these. The ''hook" portion is the same but the mounting is totally differant. Has the number "379684 GM1" cast on the side. Both hooks are the same and hefty. Mount holes are 5/8" dia. and 3 3/4" center to center. Total length front to back is 10" and weight is just under 5 lbs. each. Would these be from a correct to our trucks era fire truck, school bus, big rig tow truck...??? Would make some awesome recovery hooks for serious off road use for sure. Mount to the front frame rail or rear frame member as the "hook" portion does drop from the mount section. Anyone ever seen these before?

Re: Unknown Tow Hook Design ?

I've seen some similar to these on 67-72 C40-60 grain trucks. Of course, not lately.

Re: Unknown Tow Hook Design ?

Do these bolt to the top of the bumper area or below the under the bumper? Would be great I think for a rear tow hook application.

Re: Unknown Tow Hook Design ?

I've seen them on the inside of the frame and the bolts come from the outer face of the frame. Usually there are hole in the bumper to access the hooks. I have also seen them mounted to the lower lip of the frame. That truck had one broken on it too.

Re: Unknown Tow Hook Design ?

Kinda doubt the hooks are from Germany. just would like to know what year and series truck they are from. Never seen anything like these before. Will probably sell these after deciding what would be a fair price. Still think they would make some awesome hooks for a serious mudder or off-roader.

Re: Unknown Tow Hook Design ?

im not saying it is, but GM is also German uranium mining company that uses a similar serial number. it's a company that made steel good for mining, pipelines, lumber companies ect ,basically anyone who would have a need for heavy chains and hooks.
