My speedo or cable on my '67 is making a terrible noise...it is intermittent and can happen at any speed. When it is disconnected it makes no noise at all. I can actually feel the vibration on the face of the speedometer when it is happening. My guess is that it is the speedometer and not the cable since there is no noise when it is disconnected from the back of the speedo. Has anyone else had this experience? Perhaps it is a bushing in the speedo that is worn excessively.

Before I changed out my tranny, my speedo made a lot of racket. When I put in the T5 I had to replace the cable with a longer one - no more noise. I'd try that first. Good luck - Scott

gr8scott, I suspect your noise was because the bends were too tight...visa vie...cable too short. Mine was fine up until recently. I am not sure that is the problem but I will compare it to my other truck. Does anyone know if the TH400 cable is same as the Powerglide?

Changing from the 3 speed to the T5 five speed relocated the speedo connection so the old cable was toooooooo short. It may have had something to do with it being 35 years old - ya think? Don't know about the automatic speedo cables. Hope you get it figured out. Scott

I would first try lubing the cable. It takes minutes to do.

Just pull the cable out of the housing on the interior side and lube, then slip back in. and test. I like to submerse a cable into a quart of transmission fluid, then lightly dab off the excess and reinstall.
