Which A/C to run in my 70 project - The 1947 - Present Chevrolet & GMC Truck Message Board Network

I am new to the forum and hope I am posting this in the right forum. I am building a 70 C10 that has a 68 front clip. This is my daily driver and being from Texas, it is hot! I am debating on which aftermarket A/C to run? I do not want to go with factory due to me eventually shaving the firewall and the fact that the blower motors blow harder in the aftermarket kits. I really do not want to spend $1300 to buy one, is there any other manufacturer or options available? Any info would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Vintage Air seems to be the more popular, but I have heard good about Vintage Air and Old Air products. Either one should do the trick.

I've got Old Air, and I'm pleased with it. If you wait until Winter, You'll probably find a better deal on a kit.

I have Vintage-air on my 70. I saved some money buying just the interior kit & useing factory comp. from a salvage & universal evaporator.

Thank you for all the replies. Jhwkns how does the old air look? I plan on shaving the firewall, does their kit fit under the dash?

The Old Air kit is goofy. The aircon works great, but you can't run the compressor during defrost, and 99% of heater air blows out the dash vents at your face instead of down at your feetsies where you want it.

I'd go with the Vintage kit if I were you. I wish I'd done more homework before I bought Old Air.

Old Air has a floor vent on the passenger side, I added a floor vent on the drivers side. Where I live, defrosters don't come into play much <shrug>

Just finished installing VA today in my 69 c10.I am very happy with the overall fit,quality and customer service.I used the sure fit system but added a few custom touches.Looking to upgrade the round vents,mine was a non ac cab.

I did the same thing this weekend in my 72. I'll probably have it up and running by the end of the week. (Have to get hoses crimped and pulleys in and installed) I can't wait, it's hot in VA. But I can tell you that the blower motor blows about 1,000 x's harder than the stock one. I'm pretty happy about that.

If I remember right Year one has vintage air and they always have a 20% off coupon out there if you sign up for a catalog. 20% off one of those kits is a lot!!. If you have trouble finding a code get with me.

The current code is PS12 but it expires at midnight tonight.

Just an update, I ended up going with old air products. They are local and the service was awesome they gave me a 20% discount so after all the upgrades I did total came to 1134. Should be done in about 2 weeks. I'll post some pics, thanks for all the help

I ordered the kit the make for the 67-72 trucks. Since mine was a factory A/C cab, my truck was missing all the vents so I ordered the factory style vents from them. Then my alternator is on the passenger side, so in order to keep under the hood clean and less hose, I ordered the brackets to move the alternator the the driver side and the compressor will mount on the passenger side. They also come with the electronic control unit, but it is a free upgrade with the kit. Before the upgrade, the price was just over $1000. There shop is pretty nice and they have several dashes with their products in them. I believe Randy helped me and he was very knowledgeable.
