Retirement

I spend most of my time on the 57 section of this forum but the wife got me an early retirement gift. I don't retire for another year and a half but I guess she didn't want to wait. Looks like I'll be spending some time on this side of the forum picking your brains.

66 with a 283 / 4 speed, pwr stng and brakes.

I need to replace the (big) back glass rubber, fuel gauge is inop, and the speedo needle just bounces around. I also need to paint the M/C

I still have to work on HER 57 though..

Re: Retirement

Remember you don't have to accept every gift given to you, even from your own wife. Really nice truck. Your going to enjoy yourself in this section.
Wrong grille for your year, but luckily you can get one aftermarket or if you want a used painted grille, I can trade with ya, shipping included. Both ways. lol

Re: Retirement

Eastwoods Brake Gray paint for the mastercylinder, I did mine a year ago and it looks great..... most paint will come off due to the brake fluid.

Doesn't look like you will have to spend too much time in retirement working on it. Just alot of driving. Looks great as it is.

Re: Retirement

yeah, isn't retirement for "projects"?? That is a cool truck and an even cooler spousal unit. I'd keep em both forever.

Thanks Rob, I was going to walk over and say hi but it looked like you were in an indepth technical discussion and I think you were gone by the time i got back from getting a drink. We'll have to hook up soon.

Thanks to all for the warm welcome on this side. Worked on her today and got some good stuff done or identified today. Here's where I'm at:

-Rear glass seal - need to order (how hard to replace this myself?)
-Fuel gauge sweeps - bad splice, reads pretty solid, might be working now.
-Vent blower - bad blower motor.
-No horn - cut horn wire on steering column connector.
-No reverse lights - need new assemblies.
-Painted M/C and calipers/rotors.
-Seat will not slide forward or aft - passenger side of seat doesn't seem to have the correct track. More troubleshooting required.

Other than that, the truck runs good, tracks good going down the road and stops the way it should. I am happy-happy.

Jake,
hope this works for you. If not let me know and I'll snap a pic of whatever you need. Can you please explain the heater box mod you mentioned?

Re: Retirement

Does the bench seat have a rod that ties the track locking mechanism together for both sides? Otherwise, only one side will be able to move.

Re: Retirement

didn't see a rod. Just the lever on the drivers side with a spring that activates the mechanism on that side. I"ll add some pics in the morning.

Re: Retirement

yes, cab mounted tank. smells like gas whenever I fill up but I did find that there is a vent hose that was kinked. I'll start there...

Re: Retirement

LDO there isn`t any vent hose on the factory tank, you should have a vented cap, and the seal at the cap is bad it will allow the gas to seep out the cap and down the tube back into the cab, so new cap and new rubber around the filler tube will fix this, you could also have a leak at the fuel line as it exits the tank on the front of the tank

Re: Retirement

someone must have modified this tank then because there is a metal 'spout' on the driver's side with a 3/8 fuel house connected and it is routed down and out thru the floor. I will check for fluid leaks at the lines as well.

Re: Retirement

So I`m assuming that when you make right hand turns you lose gas every time....

Re: Retirement

It must be a retirement thing, I retired at the end of last year and soon bought me a 66' short fleet and replaced the stock grill with a 63' grill, what a coincidence.
