TH350 NoGo

Any ideas as to why a TH350 would do nothing? Full of fluid, transitions from park through N, 1, & 2 immaculately, torque converter is spinning, but no supply to the driveshaft.....HELP!

Re: TH350 NoGo

have you looked under the truck to see if the linkage is hooked up to the tranny?

Re: TH350 NoGo

There are trans specialists on the Forum. But I have a few simple questions:

You say that it "transitions perfectly". You mean at the linkage/shift-shaft?
I'm assuming the driveshaft is hooked up.....Big word, "assumption".
But you said that it was full of fluid. That usually means the driveshaft is connected. DAMHIK!!!!
With the rear wheels off the ground, the e-brake off, do you feel ANYTHING when your hands touching the driveshaft
when shifting from park to reverse while the motor's running and the torque converter's spinning.

I guess it would be lame to ask if you connected the three bolts to the flex plate, huh?

Somebody smarter than I am will answer. But maybe a little more info will help the pros.

Re: TH350 NoGo

As mentioned, I guess a little more info would help diagnose the problem.

The flex plate is connected.
The shift linkage is connected.
Fluid levels are within acceptable range.
The ebrake is currently disconnected.
There is not even the slightest supply of torque to the driveshaft with the wheels off of the ground after shifting from park to reverse.
I'm definitely not an auto trans expert by any means, but i can't think of anything else.
Thanks

Re: TH350 NoGo

How about some history here?
New trans?
What did you know about it before this?
Rule #1 in troubleshooting... where were you last? In other words... did it work before then you did something and now it doesn't? Has it ever worked?

If you don't start here, all you will get is random stabs in the dark as to why it won't work.

Re: TH350 NoGo

Unfortunately, stabs in the dark are my only approach to this since the transmission came in the pickup. I have no idea about it's history and the truck did not run when I purchased it. I may have to break it down to troubleshoot.

Re: TH350 NoGo

Filter clean? If the filter gets clogged, it will not move.

If it's just worn out, you can get some extra miles by using Lucas Transmission repair stuff. it really works. Put in my 79 truck when the tranny started slipping.

Well, that actually is a help. It drives me crazy trying to help someone and after going through a bunch of crap then have them say "well I went and undid what I had done before and now it works"

So, question 1 is out of the way.
Did the PO tell you anything about how long the truck sat? Why did he park it?

Have you smelled the trans fluid? Smell burnt?

Just checking, 2wd or 4wd? Transfer Case in neutral?

Re: TH350 NoGo

2WD. I'm going to drop the transmission to see what I can find. Hopefully the PO just installed (or didn't install) things incorrectly. Plans were to go to a 200/4R or 700 later, but run this in the meantime. It may happen sooner than later if I can't sort out this 350.
