TH200/700R4 checklist

I am going to keep my original TH400 on the shelf and run a built TH200-4R that I have. It ran 11s in a 4300lb car I had it in, so it should be up to the task.

I'm sure many have been through this kind of swap, but I'd like to accumulate a list of issues and items I need to think of. Please feel free to pile on this thread and add any info or suggestions I haven't thought of!

- 4-spd column shift indicator (ordered)
- carb bracket for TV cable (got one)
- cooler lines (going to bend and flare my own)

And a few uncertain items:

- trans mount - have a new stock one, but will anything fit out of the box?
- crossmember, does it need to move or do you just flip the mount around?
- linkage - I'm assuming the original column shift linkage itself will work, no?
- driveshaft - any mods needed? The 200 is about the same overall length as a TH350, rather than the 400. Will I need a new driveshaft, and if so, can I score something easily from a TH350 truck?
- Yoke - need something to connect a TH200-4R to our driveshafts

Thanks!
Dave

Re: TH200/700R4 checklist

I only did the chassis portion so far (no body on frame at the time). The mount I had purchased for the TH400 worked fine with the 200. Crossmember was fine. I used heavier yoke and u-joints which caused a little extra work but that was my choice.

I used a longer yoke because the 200 is a LITTLE shorter than the 400, so that compensated. Not sure if you'd need it, there's probably still lots of engagement of the yoke to trans without it but it's something to check.

If you change the trans yoke on an existing drveshaft it will need to be reballanced.

What's the going rate for balancing after installing new yoke?

Re: TH200/700R4 checklist

I want to say between $40 and $60
We usually give people a break if their shaft was ok, but they will check your yokes, ujoints and the shafts condition, stuff someone who doesn't look at driveshafts all day wouldn't notice. So its a good idea all around.
