How to Ruin a low mile 1972
Im here to tell you my tale.
Ill be the first to tell you I HAVE A DISEASE............ it dosnt have a name , But it involves old chevy trucks. Im currently building a 1964 short step pickup. Its got LS power and rolls on A frame littered with Porterbuilt parts. Dropmember ,4 link etc. it can be seen here http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...d.php?t=449019 So ive been thrashing away trying to get the truck mobile for the biggest show around that rolls thru town every three year. I tried HARD, but cutting corners and doing things twice was really the way to do it. Just for a car show.. But the itch to cruise hungered...... thinking Hey , I could find a truck lower it a little and cruise it and use up some spare parts!! I remembered the my freindly local 67-72 Parts supplier and old chevy truck hoarder had a little green long box that might fit the bill so I went out and had a look. What I found was a 1972 long fleet. 250 inline and 4 speed. a fairly nice and straight body, a great interior and get this 25,828 Original miles. The desicion was made to buy it. I left for work ( out of town ) and came back leaving myself only 3 days until the cruise. I ordered a few things while I was gone to work , I quickly dove in deeper than I had planned , without even owning the truck yet. The parts list for my little three day thrash goes like this one set of Matte finish coy C-5`s 20x8 5.25 backspacing with 255/40/20's 22x9 5.5 backspacing with 285/35/22's Bought for my 64 but the 22's were toooooo big for the stepside box to lay out. 2- Re7 slam spec bags 2- Re6 slam spec bags Beltech 3120 3" drop spindles Acuuair switch speed exo mount , tanks and pair of viair 400c's I have a cpp bolt in notch to go in but didnt have time. I did just pic this thing up tuesday night lol. Ill be adding shock relocaters front and rear the notch and an adjustable track bar. the worst part was tuesday right after I got it home , the nasty tube bumper HAD to go!!! Unfortunatly it was welded on VERY WELL... AND they hacked off the frame horns,So The guy I bought it from had a spare set allready cut off! BLah Blah Blah time for pics!!!

As I found it!
Out of its hole. Got it home and dug in immediatly , although its slightly bent the factory bumper was kept and was in the box!

Re: How to Ruin a low mile 1972
And now for the pay off pics, I forgot my camera as I was hooking up wires until the last second before I hit the cruise, but everything worked flawless!!
I took it out and snapped some pics today. Id like to get the notch it and bring the bum down but it looks allright and drives great!!

Re: How to Ruin a low mile 1972
Some body will ask so here it is at ride hieght.
Immediate plans are to install a painted rear sport bumper ( I have just need to put it on) annd clean and detail it out. The mirrors are headed for the trash and factory sport mirrors will go on. Later Ill do the notch, shocks and mounts and pamhard bar.\ This winter will be the rockers, and to paint them and make em look old to match the truck, I have no plans to paint this unit !!! Watcha think ???? not too bad for three days work... Yes I am sore and very tired. But I now have a *****en parts chaser to keep my going till my 64 hits the road!!

I like it! Gives me some inspiration for mine, just due to the sheer simplicity.
Any engine compartment pics? I'd like to see more of the air cleaner setup and how the engine looks with PB and maybe PS? Adam |

Re: How to Ruin a low mile 1972
You mean this one? Yeah, I regret selling it. It just needed a little more love than I could afford to give it at the time. It lives up in your neck of the woods now.

Re: How to Ruin a low mile 1972
Well Ive been crusing this thing happily. I still havent done the rear notch but its starting to Bug me. I have the cpp bolt in notches. ece shock relocators. ece super track bar , and ece trailing arms in my parts pile
I bit more power would be nice, my last 6 banger truck was a 292 and seemed to have quite a bit more scoot. this one might just need a tune up. or a turbo...... who knows... I did have time to pitch the rear bumpers and (gasp) sand down a good used chrome sport bumper and paint it white. Just got it on the other night. I tore off those hidious mirrors the other day, and will be picking up some factory sport mirrors to replace them.

I'm not the biggest fan of putting bags on these trucks but it does look pretty good.

Re: How to Ruin a low mile 1972
I actually love the fact that you kept that front bumper and swapped the rear one to a white one. It looks killer with that factory paint stripe. Great job
