Cool numbers on the frame

well I was tinkering around with the truck today and I found these numbers on the outside of the frame on both sides under both doors. Im not sure if its a vin # since when I searched for it, there was posts that it should be on the top of the frame rails by the cab mounts.
The numbers are 2491530 8 26 160 1 under the pass side
and 249159 8 27 160 1 under the driver side. Are these just possibly the frame part numbers? Im asking this since the P.O. was the one who built the frame and he used parts from a 75 or 85 chevy and Im thinking he used the frame too? The cab mounts on the frame have all been cut off and rewelded on but the I250 in there is numbers matching at least from what Im told.
Anyone have a clue?

Re: numbers on the frame

The numbers on the side of the frame under the cab as well as the numbers on the top of the frame beside the drivers side motor mount should match the VIN on your cab. If not the frame has been changed.

Re: numbers on the frame

well the vin I have on the cab is def different from that, but thats weird that the numbers are different on each side too. Im just trying to piece together a history so I can move forward with this build.

Re: numbers on the frame

I read in a different thread those numbers are probably the part numbers for the individual frame rails before the whole thing was assembled. I believe the VIN should be on top of the frame ahead of the engine mount, unless it's a GMC frame which does not have a VIN stamped in it.

Re: numbers on the frame

I don't believe that those number on the side rails are related to the VIN. They're different from the vin stamped on top of the left side frame rail on the trucks I've owned.

Re: numbers on the frame

Here's what I have on my 70 GMC and I'm not able to locate the Vin stamped atop the frame , just below the cab. I used a mirror and fingertips. Vin is not stamped by the steering box either.

Re: numbers on the frame

i also checked today for a vin on the top of the frame and by the steering box and could not find one. The more I look at the frame though I think the front Z is original and the rest of the frame is maybe from a 72?

Re: numbers on the frame

The GMC's do not have the VIN numbers stamped into the frame anywhere.
