88-98 stepside box on 68-72 frame how to
does anyone have info on what needs to be done to make this work? or a link to someone who has done this swap?
i can get one f these boxes fairly chea and probably wont be able to afford the proper fleetside for some time so i want to go this rout for time being so i can drive my truck, if it involves hacking up my factory mounting points on the frame for the original box im not really interested in doing it, if i only have to drill a gole or two in the frame thats not as big of a deal any info would help thanks in advance |

Re: 88-98 stepside box on 68-72 frame how to
I currently have one on my 67 and I got it that way. mine is the 88-? flareside/stepside.
From what I can tell is they cut/notched the cross sill above the rear axle too clear the frame. At the front mount they used the oe bed mount hole's on both the bed and frame and a puck for a spacer/mount. Near the rear they mustve drilled through the frame at the 88-? oe bed holes and added more hockey pucks as spacers The rear cross sill doesnt even sit on the frame its a little off but a plate could easyly be made to join the two together. I have a 67-72 step bed In the works but it will be a long while before its on and boy o boy I cant wait for it. Even though the newer bed doesnt look too bad it just doesnt work for me the flattend wheel well really just kills the look. heres some pic's
