Wow! I'd drive all the way to pick it up and it would still be a great deal. The temptation is almost too much for me pass up but the divorce will cost a lot more.

I wish I would have seen that a few months ago. Is it me or are the trucks coming down?

Re: Ebay Deal? SWB Restored $12k
I don't know about a steal per say, maybe a deal. It's similar to mine which I wouldn't expect to get more than $15K for...the market is real, not inflated right now.

Re: Ebay Deal? SWB Restored $12k
I'd say its definitely a steal, if indeed its an in depth restoration. You can't build one for that price.

Re: Ebay Deal? SWB Restored $12k
I agree it's a very nice truck, great craftsmanship, and a good deal. However, if I were looking for a Cheyenne Super, I'd not buy this without a little more info. Considering the location of the Super nameplate on the driver's side, I'd want to see a SPID before I sold my moped for it. Having said that - even if it's not a Super and is only a Cheyenne, it's a good deal (probably would sell quicker if restored and advertised as a Cheyenne if that's what it was originally - all the Super buyers have probably written this one off for the above reason - but that's just my 2 cents only).
Seeing this nice little truck, and others like it, make me wonder if somewhere along the line, a string of these were produced with the Super nameplate in the wrong spot, i.e. not left justified like they would normally be. There are SO many resto-mods out there that have the Super nameplate in the position that this one does it makes me wonder if it was an assembly line inconsistency. But, then again, every one I've ever checked on that had the badge placed like this was a bogus Super. It's perfectly fine if you know you're not getting a super, but I think when someone gets one delivered and they don't know it till it shows up after they paid, well, buyer beware, as they say. |

Re: Ebay Deal? SWB Restored $12k
Ok, since I brought it up, I felt obliged to follow-up. Contacted the seller via ebay, and he sent the SPID which clearly shows "YE9 Cheyenne Super Spor”. He said it is an original Cheyenne Super and that the nameplate is in the right place, has never moved.
But, the SPID also says Model # 10934 and 127” wheelbase …. You be the judge, but since he says it’s an original Cheyenne Super and “uncut” – I have no problem highlighting this on the forum. While it could potentially screw a member selling it – I’d rather protect a member from buying it without knowing what they are getting for sure. If you know all the above and are cool with it, then it’s a great deal. However, if you are new to these trucks and thought you were buying an original Cheyenne Super SWB, you’d probably be mistaken – I’m no expert, but I’d suspect either a glovebox swap (which can be disproven once the real VIN is seen on the metal tag) or it’s a long-to-short conversion. I’d suspect the latter as I doubt anyone would go to this much effort on a beautiful resto with a SPID/metal plate VIN mismatch. The wrong placement of the nameplate could possibly be an assembly line issue, but I doubt the line would goon up the wheelbase and model number on the SPID. I feel bad even pointing this out, but not bad enough to not point it out. The fact that he confidently pointed out it was a Super to me in email and backed it up with a SPID that has a wheelbase that doesn’t match – all the while touting original “uncut” condition tells me either he’s not being up front, or he bought it and is honestly reselling it but doesn’t realize what he has, or what has happened to this truck along the way. I’m not questioning his honesty, just his knowledge of the truck (unless of course he is being less than forthcoming). I replied with a polite question about the wheelbase, no reply yet. I got the SPID reply fairly quickly. I kinda feel bad for digging into this – I know we avoid bashing, but do you all think it’s ok to point out stuff that could potentially screw a new member if he were looking at this truck as a real super swb? When I see things like this that I can’t explain away, I post on here to learn – and, on the outside chance I might be correct - I also remember how it felt to be screwed on a purchase in the past and it’s hard to sit on my hands (a seller once forged a bill of sale to make a title “look” correct even though the poor dude in whose name the truck had been titled had been dead as a doorknob for 10 years). I think it’s fair to point stuff out about suspect authenticity when someone is advertising it as authentic, especially for something like a Cheyenne Super. I’ll shut up and color now… |

Re: Ebay Deal? SWB Restored $12k
You're not bashing at all....simply stating facts...and in case someone doesn't know....127" wheelbase designates that this truck was originally a longbed. Not a shortbed as being sold (would be 115" on the spid)

Re: Ebay Deal? SWB Restored $12k
Got a reply. Seller stated that the metal VIN and the SPID match - and that it is not a lwb to swb conversion. So, I guess that's that. I'm stumped. Happy hunting gents.

Re: Ebay Deal? SWB Restored $12k
Ask for pics underneath...its either had a frame swap or its been cut. He is probably ignorant. If he wanted to hide anything he would have pulled the spid imo.

Re: Ebay Deal? SWB Restored $12k
i'm kinda done dealing with the guy. I'm not gonna buy it, so I don't want to bug him. The tone of his last reply led me to believe he's not ignorant, but rather he just doesn't want to discuss little details like the SPID 127" wheelbase on a shortbed truck issue.... No skin off my teeth. Still a very nice truck no matter what the case is. I agree though, the most likely scenario is that he bought it that way and doesn't realize 127" is a LWB truck.

Re: Ebay Deal? SWB Restored $12k
Could be that it is a clone Cheyenne Super that someone put on a 115 wb frame? I would pay 12k anyday for a nice restored truck, clone or no clone as long as the seller is being homest about what it started out as. My truck is a clone, it's not a Cheyenne, or even a super, or even a SWB, or even a 4wd. But as far as i'm concerned it is worth every bit of 15K or even higher. So, say a truck like mine that started out as a basic C/10 Custom LWB, and now I have taken my cab and an actual short wide bed and sat it all on a 115wb 4x4 frame, does that not make it a 4x4 SWB? Nothing has been cut, and I added the Cheyenne Super badges simply because I like the Supers. Does that really take alot away from the value? If I were ever to part with my truck I would definitely pass on the info that the truck is not a real Super, and that it is a "built" SWB 4x4. I guess what I am saying is that a truck like that with the right amount of restoration in my opinion is still worth what he is asking.

Re: Ebay Deal? SWB Restored $12k
I understand, and if properly inspected this truck could be well worth 12K plus and likely is...
However, if the seller doesn't know a major detail like this (or worse...knows and is being deceptive) then there are likely other issues with the build.... That is what comes to mind with me...are there quality issues? The pictures aren't very big in the ad...was the frame cut....if so, was it reinforced properly or welded and bondo'd to be hidden? Was it really an almost rust free truck or were there a lot of repairs made with bondo? (I've seen trucks that look amazing like this and turn out to be rust buckets inside with good jobs hiding the patches... (look up project Jezebel) How is the engine built? Tranny? Gears? Brakes? Could they be about to fail but painted up nicely? Paint quality? I've seen paint jobs that look great but literally fall off when washed the first time because of poor prep work...plus, in the small pictures can you really tell the paint quality??? (hint: you can't ) All these questions pop into my head on any vehicle for sale...but much more so when the seller is either purposely lying or just not informed enough to know what to look for....
