700 R4 install help

Looking to find out what I'm up against going from a T-350 to a 700r4. What problems should I expect in the install? I've heard the wiring can be tricky... Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Re: 700 R4 install help

Wiring if a snap is you use this : http://www.summitracing.com/parts/BMM-70244/
There are two versions. Mechanical and Electronic speedo. Unfortunately the electronic version only works with stock electronic speedos. The pulse rate didn't work with my electronic Autometer speedo.

The B&M lockup is entirely external. No need to drop the pan. Just plug is up and run the wiring. I've been running it for over 2 yrs now. The thing I like best is being able to change the lockup point on the fly. Very nice.

Cant tell you about the wiring, but i know the driveshaft for mine had to be shortened +\- 3". My brother wired up the lock up in the pan, but i currently have the fuse pulled. I dont feel like its shifting the way it should. Im gonna keep an eye on this thread to see if anybody can shed some light on this.

That's exactly why I went with the B&M. It's pricey but the ability to change the lockup point is huge. There might be others but it was the only one I found with that feature.

If you go with a stall make sure it supports lockup. Also, make damn sure you get the TV cable adjusted correctly. If not, you'll burn that tranny up quick!

I just installed an OD trans in my '69 Suburban and I went with the Bowtie Overdrives TV made EZ kit and the lockup kit. I have an Edelbrock carb and I spent a lot of time looking for a TV cable bracket that I never found. I even found a universal one and I couldn't make it work either. I just got tired of the frustration. Seems to work good but my first and second gear pressures are not where they should be. I may have to rebuild it.

The quicker i burn it up, the sooner i can get a new one, no questions asked from the warden. lol. I only paid a 100 for the tranny, so it aint to bad if it goes. First gear, the tires are broken loose till it hits seond, then it feels like it bogs. My brother said i was just use to the t350. I might just take it up the road and get it "built"

I started with an Eddy and now run a Holley. With both carbs I used this Lokar setup with throttle and tv cable. It is pricey but worked perfect for my needs.

That looks like a good setup. The BTO was pretty steep too. My wife couldn't believe I spent that much on it as tight as I am...

Re: 700 R4 install help

I bought my BTO kits back in 06. They were easy to set up and work great. They are pricey, but they work. To those with the lock up kits, MAKE SURE it has a brake switch. This unlocks the converter when the brakes are applied... you don't want to be rolling down the road at 55 and some a-hole pulls out in front of you, you slam the brakes and the truck stalls...
