1950 GMC Short Bed: Project Not Named
Recently I picked up this 50 GMC from Virginia, but first a short background on me. I live in West Virginia, near Wheeling. I've always been a big fan of older chevy trucks. I also have a 74 stepside, currently for sale on this site. For the last 7 years I have been building s10 pickup trucks and frankly I am exhausted with them. My roots have always been older trucks and cars. Mostly older Plymouth cars to be exact. Anywho, here is my 50 GMC short bed. Plans for her is to rebuild the original frame using a 4 link and mustang II front IFS. Then setting her up on air ride suspension. So here are a few pictures of when I got her on July 5th this year.

Re: 1950 GMC Short Bed: Project Not Named
Since then I have stripped her down and seperated the body from the frame. I have to replace the cowl panles, floor braces, floor panels, and cab corners on both sides.
I have removed the gas tank as I intend to place the 70 mustang style between the rear framerails as discussed on here.

Well, now that your all up to speed on the build, feel free to watch some videos I'm posting on you tube of the tear down and where I'm at so far. They are good office time wasters! www.youtube.com/AspecialZ

Re: 1950 GMC Short Bed: Project Not Named
I thought about buying this same truck late last year for parts but for various reasons it didn't happen. I'm glad to see it's getting done right. PM sent.

Thanks 2manyprojects ( I feel your screen name ) haha. I also replied to your PM;
Today I slid the frame back out, been busy finishing the wiring under the dash in an s10 truck I picked up last year wrecked. Its come a long way in the last year and looks good again, I just wanted something good on gas, 2.2/5-speed. I'm going to start stripping the frame to get it sandblasted. Figured I would just update everyone. Have a great week!

Cool man, I'll check out the listing. Yeah I got them parts in Carnegie, right under my nose. Can't pass that up. GMC are so unique, I just love them. Very interesting story on how the guy came up on the parts. Def cool. Hopefully I'll see your gmc around sometime.

Re: 1950 GMC Short Bed: Project Not Named
Well, fell behind over the last few weeks, trying to get those last minute summer jobs completed. Decided I would try to beat the weather the other day and start sandblasting the cab in prep of replacing panels. I did find alot of hidden rust, looks like I'm going to have some heavy hours in welding in this soon. Finally getting to the frame, i'm hoping to have it stripped by Friday.

Looking good, so what blaster are you using? I was thinking of getting one of the HF ones to try out.

Re: 1950 GMC Short Bed: Project Not Named
I have one I picked up at TP tools up in Youngstown. Works great, has seperate shut off for air flow and screen for debris blocking from the nozzle.

Re: 1950 GMC Short Bed: Project Not Named
Well, finally got around to the frame with the help of my friend Bill. I'm a little closer to having this chassis down to the bare minimum. I'm going to pull off everything and start fresh so I can fill in holes that will no longer be required with new steel. Then I'll be ready to blast I hope. If anyone needs any front end parts let me know, thanks.

Re: 1950 GMC Short Bed: Project Not Named
Well, warm weather is coming so maybe I'll get back to this project. I just purchased a 49 3100 a few weeks ago too which I haven't picked up (road trip) I'm hoping to get the frame blasted over the next few weeks so I can start placing the No limit suspension up front. Interested to see what it looks like rolling!
