Ditto. Swapped a 350 in place of the 230 in my 64 C10 a few years ago. You can use the flywheel, clutch, pressure plate, bellhousing, and starter from the 230, all right over to your 350. I think I even used the 230 water pump pulley.

Re: Flywheels: 230 v. 350

I did a 454 swap a few years ago and used the six cyl flywheel, clutch, and starter. I had to buy a balancing plate but it all bolted up and ran out fine. Chevys are awesome for interchangeability..

Be careful because a 153 vs 168 tooth flywheel will mess you up depending which bellhousing/starter you have.

if you use the same b/housing, flywheel and starter off the orig eng you will have no problem.
the only eng that won't use that flywheel is a 400 as they are balanced differently

Re: Flywheels: 230 v. 350

Awesome. I just bought a GM crate motor from Jegs and am getting the pieces together that didn't come with it. Now I just need exhaust manifolds and a water pump.

Re: Flywheels: 230 v. 350

what year is the crate motor. believe that the c/shaft -flywheel relation ship changed when it went to the 1 piece rear seal. then you have to run a newer flywheel and corresponding starter. perhaps it was around 87-89. someone else can confirm that please

You can buy a balancing plate for the 400 as well if you need to run a 350 flywheel, a cheap fix if you can't find the correct 400 one.

Re: Flywheels: 230 v. 350

Anyone know which exhaust manifolds to run? I sen a set that run out the back but wasn't sure. I'm kinda considering headers just to get through the rest of the summer and I can get it into a good exhaust shop.
