original finish under the hood ?

I pulled these off my 65 and the back side has a bare zinc coating almost galvanized looking. Is this original or is the something going on with this?

I was going to post this in the factory correct restoration thread but I wanted to be sure this is an OEM finish

Re: original finish under the hood ?

When my originals were first pulled off the truck for powder coating, they didn't look like that, and I've never seen any others with that finish on the back side. Sorry that doesn't really prove anything but hopefully others will be able to confirm one way or the other.

I've never seen any like that, all still had varying amounts of black paint on them. Maybe they're early aftermarket replacements?

Never would have expected to see that. Looks galvanized to me. Very interesting.

I've never seen it.
I wonder if someone had them done special.

I agree. Maybe an hvac contractor got a hold of the original dies...

No kidding, that is exactly what it looks like, galvanized ducting sheet metal.

Re: original finish under the hood ?

Well the truck was a 65 parts truck that has been altered some ( wheels, engine, radio etc. ) but otherwise pretty original. I had never noticed this either but thought maybe they others had just rusted or been painted.

Maybe someone will have some info on this... maybe GM did something strange like running out of regular steel and used what they could get or had laying around.

anyone else ever seel something like this?

Re: original finish under the hood ?

I have never seen a set of those galvanized in the 35+ years I have been working on these trucks. My guess is that a previous owner had them galvanized.
