Hooker Comp headers and manual trans...

Anyone here run Hooker Headers Competition headers part #2452 with a manual transmission? What mods if any did you have to do to your bell crank( Z-bar)???

Mine has apparently been rubbing or in a bind. The truck got really hard to shift the other night with very little pedal travel. I was in the next town over,and I made it through all the numerous stoplights in that town without shifting. I got a mile from home and was forced to downshift,and one of the arms broke off the z-bar. I was able to get the truck to start in 2nd gear,and I limped the rest of the way home.

It had been done so long ago I had forgotten,but one of my dad's coworkers had ground off and rewelded the arm that broke. It was the arm from the pedal instead of the arm from the zbar to the clutch fork though . I'm not sure why we modifiied it that way because I believe you would need to modify the arm by the headers for extra clearance.

Anybody else have any issues like this?

I have not used the Hooker headers, but a couple of other members have, and have said that it is a tight fit but no mods to the bellcrank is necessary.

I have modified the bellcrank many years ago to use a particular set of headers because they worked with my angle plug heads. I did move the arm that connected to the rod coming from the pedal. I did not have any issue with the arm breaking, although my modified rod did break once.

I am running Hooker headers with a 327 manual trans, the only modification I had to make was two small bends in the shift linkage to clear a header tube. They have been installed for 10+ years with no issues other than cooking my negative batterey cable shorting it and causing the underside of my dash to light up..... not the headers fault but wrap and secure your wires away from them please!

2466 HKR DO NOT FIT factory manual hydraulic bellhouse. The arm hits tube. The driver side needed clearance as well. Running them with a hydraulic bearing instead.
