Oiled bed?

Has anyone had success with a simple oil finish on their wood bed? I'm building a nice truck but admittedly I might have to actually put a sack of groceries in the bed and just can't see a high dollar, less than practical finish when I could periodically and simply re-oil the wood as needed. ANY thoughts would be appreciated.

Re: Oiled bed?

That's an awesome idea.

Teak, mahogany or redwood would look great.

You've given me my new plan.

That's exactly what I have planned on doing. The oil, although I'm not sure
What I'm going to use, will darken the wood and and give it a nice but useable look.. IMO

Re: Oiled bed?

Linseed oil would be better.
Won't smell bad either.

Re: Oiled bed?

I replaced the boards in my bed with red oak and coated it with a version of linseed oil. It looks great after 3 years. The oak darkened a little bit, but not too much. Sorry, I don't have a current picture.

Be carefull of the paper grocery bags after a fresh coat of oil. You'll end up bottoms out.
