Carb QuadraJet remanufacturers ??

I just bought a 72’ C20 Chevy Pickup with a 350/TH350 and the QuadraJet carb needs rebuilding. It’s leaking from one of the primary throttle shafts. I suspect a stuck needle or bad float. I know these carbs require some TLC but when done right are great!

Any particular advice or experience you've had with one of the big carb remanufacturers on the Internet? There are a lot of them, but pricing fluctuates wildly as do core charges. They all brag about being the best.

Any suggestions would be most appreciated!! I also heard that Holley and Edelbrock make a direct replacement, ideas there too?

Thanks,

Andre'

Re: Carb QuadraJet remanufacturers ??

Get the book by Cliff Ruggles and you will be far ahead of the game.
Google his name and you will find him. He also does rebuilds and repairs. He is probably the best Q-jet guy out there.

Re: Carb QuadraJet remanufacturers ??

I was just reading that the Holley rebuild service includes Q-Jets, and they do the plating and so on. Supposedly it's all done by one guy, so he should be pretty good at it.

Cliff Ruggles is of course a well-known expert, but when I checked last he was many months out due to backlog...

Re: Carb QuadraJet remanufacturers ??

That carb needs a shaft rebush among other things. A "generic" rebuild prolly won't cut it. So the links provided will give you a great professionally rebuilt carb.

Re: Carb QuadraJet remanufacturers ??

I just bought a reman Q-Jet from Summit Racing 750 CFM for $269, and we put it on my Dad's 75 Stingray, the original was on it, and was leaking. Let me tell ya this new one gave the Vette at least 50 more horses it seems. Look into Summit, they got no core charge and you will have it in a day or two tops and you can just bolt it on and go!

You’re in Santa Rosa and Recarbco is in Pittsburg Ca ~ an hour’s drive. Ask for Noah, he’s the owner, tell him the Asphalt Outlaws sent you, that’s our Car Club name, he knows who it is. Hopefully he’ll give you a deal and not throw you out LOL. They do good work I think you’ll be happy.

They did mine many years ago and they did a great job. Seems like someone posted on here awhile back that their best guy left and the quality hasn't been the same since..... don't quote me 'cause I'm not positive and I don't want to unfairly hurt their rep.

Anyway, their new website is http://www.customcarbs.com/

Re: Carb QuadraJet remanufacturers ??

Classic Carburetor & Electric Service in Birmingham AL does good work. He sells most of his stuff through EBAY and Craigslist. If you want to see his stuff go on Craigslist for Birmingham AL and search for “Carburetor (Hoover)”, (Hoover AL is where he actully is). He usually has several items there. If you go on eBay and look around for rebuilt Quadrajets, he will usually have something there also. He rebuilt a Quadrajet for me for less than I would have expected. His eBay handle is: wrnala09. If you send me a private note I will give you his phone number, as I don’t know if he would want it public or not.

http://stores.ebay.com/Classic-Carbu...id=p4340.l2563

If for some reason that search doesn’t work just do a store search on EBay under Classic Carburetor Electric Service.

One other thing contrary to what you usually hear, the Quadrajet is a superior product and will give better performance and economy than any carburetor I know of. The problem is they are highly tunable and need to be approached by someone who understands them. It is interesting to me that they are such a well designed unit that the same basic carburetor with very few changes can be used on a v6 or on a 454. Once they are set up correctly, they need very little service.

Sean Murphy Induction in Huntington Beach CA, probably one of the best carb people on the face of the earth.

Had mine set up by Jett Performance in Long Beach, CA. Still running strong after 8 years. They tune it to your particular engine modifications (cam, intake, exhaust, etc.)

I found this out to be very true.

However, if you've got a decent carb, and throttle shaft bushings are its biggest need, Cliff's turn around on rebuilding the base is fairly quick. Mine was done in about a week. I'm also very impressed with his rebuild kits. They have extras not in auto parts store kits, and he will swap out standard gaskets for thicker ones if you need them for no extra charge.
