72 molding questions

I have a few questions. im working on replacing my rusty 72k20 cheyenne cab with a rust free 70 camper special. i am working on getting all the cheyenne trim mounted on the 70 and have some questions.

1, are the upper and lower side moldings in the same location on the 70&72? the 70 has the black lower stripe, 72 has woodgrain.

One of the Po's back in the day was a screw happy SOB.. lol
2, is it correct to have screws in the tailgate band visable, and not just hidden clips? the rest of my side molding was all screwed on, so i want to make sure the tailgate band is supposed to be that way before i drill holes in my new tailgate. I did notice the LMC replacement is screwed on, but wasnt sure if that was correct.

3, is the 72 cheyenne supposed to have the chrome trim that runs along the bottom of the tailgate? My 72 does not have it, and i am not sure if it is just missing or what, but the 70 does have it.

4, is the headliner molding supposed to be screwed in along with the clips? or again was the po a screw happy sob lol.

5, what is the trim made out of, and what is the best way to go about re-conditioning it. It isnt magnetic.. is it stainless or chromed? Chrome would be magnetic i believe?

6, are their any write ups for installing the cargo light and the molding that runs along the back of the cheyenne cab just above the bed on a 70 cab that did not originally have that?

sorry for all the questions, one of the previous owners was a lazy sob. emblems on fenders are rivited in place, tabs on them are in tact, but they rivited them instead. side moldings are full of screws, i know there is supposed to be a screw in the front of the door moldings BUT not down the entire side of the truck this is why i am asking so i can make sure and get it right.

Re: 72 molding questions

thanks led zep! im just wanting to make my cab swap with the 70 look at close to the 72 as i can.

One other thing i noticed, the 72 has a vent in the drivers door sil, this is to equalize pressure when you shut the door i think. If it were yours would you put it in the 70 cab? or just leave it out.

They say the vent is to "equalize the pressure" but I think it is used to have access the lower cab molding. At least in comes in handy when the gas tank is in place.

So is mine, i was just curious what the side molding on the truck was made up of. I wanted to polish the ones i had, instead of buying aftermarket.

Would you cut the hole for it, or just go without? Im trying to figure out what to do. I know it would be a bit more bodywork but if it is worth adding i will.

If you really want it to look like a 72 cab, I would. If you are not going for a 100% restoration, It's probably not that big od a deal though. It really is nearly impossible to reach the lower trim with the gas tank in place with out that vent hole though.
