Any of you guys running a rearsway bar?
who has a rear sway bar on their truck? not talking the guy with the full hotchkis kit. i saw a rear swaybar on summitracing for 130 for my truck. im curious as to how much of a difference it makes in the handling and ride of our trucks.

Re: Any of you guys running a rearsway bar?
I installed one on a friends truck. I stiffened the ride too much, and he ended up removing it.

Re: Any of you guys running a rearsway bar?
I just received mine from LMC, but have't installed it yet. I wouldn't expect it would stiffen the straight line ride much, it's intended only really to come into play when then two rear wheels are trying to be at different heights.
I suppose if you went over a bump with the right wheel it might upset the left more than if you didn't have a sway bar.

Re: Any of you guys running a rearsway bar?
I had the one from Classic Perform and loved it, however when I replaced my trailing arms to the square tubing ones they reccomended not to put a sway bar on so I ended up selling here on the board. the truck had almost no body roll

Re: Any of you guys running a rearsway bar?
I installed a rear swaybar on my truck, made a world of difference in the handling!! I got it off a camaro Z28, bolted right up, just had to make some spacers for the frame.

Re: Any of you guys running a rearsway bar?
I installed front and rear (& some other suspension parts) and all I can say is WOW!!! Almost no body roll going around corners. Well worth the cost in drivability.
I would like to add that if you plan on any spirited driving you will need to match the front to rear or you will induce over or under steer and quickly lose control. Posted via Mobile Device

Re: Any of you guys running a rearsway bar?
I have an 84 GMC Serria with a 3/4 ton front bar, a Hellwig rear, all poly bushings, 5/7 drop with spindles and ebiach springs, 17x8 front wheels and 17x9.5 rear with BFG's....the sucker handles like a slot car but rides like a log sled.....basically you're gonna give up ride to get handling to some extent....depends how indepth you go.

Re: Any of you guys running a rearsway bar?
its not that I haven't spent the bucks, I spent plenty, every piece is aftermarket except the front bar....front rides OK, but rear is super stiff with the Hellwig bar, especially over bumps and road irregularities. Not saying its the bars fault....its just doesn't work well with other items I have. I feel its probably more about matching components that complement one another or staying with one manufactures system that is designed to work with one another...rather than simply cubic dollars spent.

Re: Any of you guys running a rearsway bar?
i got one off a late 80s pontiac firebird and mounted it on mine. i just had to drill a few holes to mount it and no other modifications and it made a world of difference in the handling .i got the bar and brakets from the car and bought new bushing. 30.00 dollars for the bar i think 20.00 for the bushings from oreillys. if you need pictures i will put some on here just reply.

Re: Any of you guys running a rearsway bar?
Starting mockup of the rear sway bar. I have ordered the splined bar and can mount the bushing brackets then.

Re: Any of you guys running a rearsway bar?
I've got a late 80's IROC bar too, it's 15/16", vs the 7/8" bar on the z/28's.

Re: Any of you guys running a rearsway bar?
Wow nobody has suggested to read the "make it handle" thread.
It really depends how you want your truck to drive. Plenty of autocross guys will remove the rear swaybar..... if you don't know why, go read. Posted via Mobile Device

Re: Any of you guys running a rearsway bar?
. . . .
I had one installed during my truck's restoration. ( this is the only picture I have, but it can be seen at the very bottom of this picture ) It corners better now and the firmer ride that it has is mostly from the new shocks that replaced ones that were SHOT !!! . . . . |
