gas gauge problem
just got my truck back today from the shop. when i dropped it off it was out of gas on purpose because they had to remove my tank to weld. now the gauge reads pegged full all the time. any ideas what the problem is?

Re: gas gauge problem
Sounds as if the float is stuck in a upward position.

Re: gas gauge problem
Mine works intermittently, when it is not working it slams to the right. I have not bothered to try and figure it out yet, but suspect it is a grounding issue. As your tank was removed and replaced, maybe grounding is your issue. Did anything else change at the same time?

Gauge wire or ground wire not connected?

Re: gas gauge problem
If the gauge reads full all the time, the sending unit needs to be grounded better or the sending unit is bad. If the gauge reads empty all the time the float is probably full of gas. Very seldom does the gauge itself go bad, usually sending unit or wire problems.
Take the wire off the sending unit, turn the key on and watch the gauge, touch the wire to a good ground, the gauge should read empty, take the wire off the ground, gauge should read full. |
