Door lock Problems...need HELP

First of thanks for taking the time to read this.. I have a 71 C10 which when i bought it, it did not have keys for the doors and where different than the ignition. I bought a complete set (doors, ignition, glovebox) with all matching keys. I installed the ignition no problem but Im having the most diffucult time doing the doors.

I have been doing this for two days and still no luck.. I read that there are a right and a left lock but the two new ones i got look exactly the same. Anyways I started with the passanger side and removed the old lock and installed the new lock but it wont work propertly. It looks to be that the pawl is position incorrectly and should be more to the right or to the side of the latch. but it can only go in one way same thing with the lock it can only go one way so i cant rotate the lock...

I attached some pics

These are the two locks the old is on the right the new is on the left...(identical)

when in place if i turn the key to the right from the outside it looks like this..

if i turn it to the left from the outside it looks like this...

I understand the pawl should go inbetween the "C" but if i place it there the key wont turn to the right and if i turn it to the left, it doesnt unlock or lock all the way and its being forced...

Whats frustrating is that the locks looks the same old and new and im reusing the same pawl and it wont work.. one other thing i noticed is that the old lock has some wear so the pawl moves a little over more , would that be it? Can anyone help of give ideas on what it could be? ...thanks again

they dont look identical. if you look at the bumps near the outer part of the lock cylinder they are opposite. i would say that cylider goes to the opposite door the old one comes from.

Here is another angle of the locks showing them to be the same.. and the left one is the old one showing the wear on the top part where the pawl goes

The lock cylinders are Identical. There is a right and left to the pawls. Your problem is that you have the wrong pawls, those are for a car not a truck.

Read this thread all the way through.
