Period-correct bed rail kit? - The 1947 - Present Chevrolet & GMC Truck Message Board Network

I'm thinking I might stick a bed rail kit on my box, though I'd prefer something that didn't have to be drilled in.

Being a longhorn, I'm not sure if there is anything available, but if you have pictures of something, please share them!

More important is something period correct... I don't want diamond plate or something too modern. It'd probably look nautical back in the day.

Im interested in this as well since I might be getting a longhorn very soon if this deal goes through.

You're talking bed rails and not bed side caps? I've only seen diamond plate bed side caps. The only bed rails I've seen attach by drilling through the top of the bedside. The first picture are the ones offered through GM accessories for these trucks. The second ones were offered (by GM) post '72 but are period correct and were seen on many of these trucks. There were no bed side caps back in this time period:

Cool, thanks. Since there's only one part number, unless they were cut to fit, I'd imagine they didn't fit the longhorn.

But at least I know what they looked like now... and they are indeed nautical looking. I suppose if I can't find truck ones, if I could find some boat ones I could probably match up something close.

I had a set of the later ones with woodgrain (2nd pic) that I bought from a dealer in SC a while back. I sold them to a guy with a Longhorn,actually. They made long and short bed models,I believe. But,they are component design so maybe only one size made and you altered to fit. You would need two sets of the earlier style and have to run a 4th stanchion for an exact fit. I guess the guy who bought mine was just going to leave them 3" short at both ends. I have this type on my tow truck cut down to fit. The early "truly correct" (and used prior to '67) are truly a nautical style. I wonder if this same type,or similar,is available through marine suppliers
