SuperSub© Intermittent SES Light

The SuperSub© has been throwing an SES light and I’m kinda curious as to what some of you might think it is. I have an idea, but I don’t want to “taint the well” so-to-speak. I know I can pull the code, but it’s been super hot and I’ve been super lazy. I just haven’t gotten around to it yet.

Anyway, I get an SES light when I’m cruising down the highway at a consistent speed (70+). The light usually comes on after a few miles and stays on until I shut the truck off. I noticed it on a trip up to Washington. I’d jump on the highway, set the cruise at 70 and after about 5-10 miles, the light would pop. It would stay on until I stopped to get gas or something. I’d restart the truck, light would be off, jump on the highway and the whole scenario would repeat itself.

Any ideas? Truck seems to be running fine otherwise. No noticeable issues. Got about 11.5 MPG on 3:73’s and 35” tires.

Re: SuperSub© Intermittent SES Light

Are there any dead spots in the pedal when accelerating? I had an obd1 jeep that had the same symptoms when the throttle position sensor went bad. You should be able to pull a code to tell you what the ses light is for though.

There is no need for guessing with TBI. Just install a wire jumper between pins A&B of the ALDL connector, turn on ignition and count SES blinks. You should get 3x code 12 followed by 3x of what ever code that set of SES.

Based on your description I would venture to guess that code that is set of is EGR related. Again - it is a guess!

Re: SuperSub© Intermittent SES Light

I was thinking EGR as well. I'll pull the code this weekend.
