oilpan removal while in the truck - C10

Has anyone here removed the oil pan on their C10 while in the truck? Wondering if this is possible or not before I attempt.

Please let me know, thanks!

Did you have to undo the motor mounts, and raise the engine a little bit? And did the crank get in the way. I have an 87 with a 305.

years back i did the oil pump swap on a 305. We were on the floor doing this. We had to undo the motor mounts and jack up te motor and place some pieces of wood between the motor mount and the frame part to give it some clearance and everything went fine
I have no clue about the big block as i never had one in a truck

Re: oilpan removal while in the truck - C10

I changed my oil pan gasket not too long ago, (went to a 1-piece rubber gasket). small block 350 though. pan slid right out after taking oil filter off, inspection cover under torque converter and just had to slightly turn the engine over. kinda tricky when your on your back, looking up having to maneuver the pan around oil pump pick-up tube and starter, but that was because i had crank scrapers on the side of the pan. I also put a new MOROSO oil pan on it cuz my So-Cal finned pan would not work with any gasket, so the new pan went up easier around the pick up tube.

My dad had a 454 in his '72 with '73 front suspension. he had to pull his oil pan a few times, never saw him use an engine hoist........

just my .02

Just did mine a few weeks ago, I pulled dist just to be safe, undo motor and trans mounts, lift motor few inches with jack on trans and front of motor, and turn crank to get it out. With two people it would be pretty easy and quick. This was on a 82 swb GMC with 454.
