Eaton HO52/72 4.10 gears

I have a Eaton HO52/72 third member with 4.10 gears. Aside from the dirt and grease on the outside, it is in really good shape. The ring and pinion backlash is good, and the spiders are tight as well. It does need a pinion seal though. I'll clean up the outside some before shipping. Just been too busy lately. This came out of a '72 G30 mini motorhome. The odometer showed 78,000. Asking $100.00 plus shipping.

Re: Eaton HO52/72 4.10 gears

Are the pinion seals available? Is this something that can be done at home or does it require a press, etc? I wonder if the local driveshaft shop could handle this? I will check with him tomorrow or Monday.
I wonder what shipping would be to zip 08721?
Interested pending answers to some important questions.
Thanks,
Tony

Is this a No-Spin (posi) unit? If it is, I would like to be next in line.
Thanks,
Justin

Re: Eaton HO52/72 4.10 gears

I checked O'Reilly's website and they show the pinion seal as available. Changing it yourself would depend on what tools you have. It would be easiest to remove the pinion nut with an impact, but it can be done with a 1/2" breaker bar and socket. I will have to get a weight and a box size and get back to you with a price.

No sorry this is an open diff. I intended to mention that in the original post, but apparently forgot.

It looks like UPS wants about $142.00 to ship this to you in NJ. Shipping weight will be about 128 pounds.

Re: Eaton HO52/72 4.10 gears

Gonna have to pass on this unfortunately. Didn't realize the total with shipping was going to be that much. Thanks for taking the time to quote it for me.

Yep, shipping something that heavy basically all the way across the country is expensive. I don't blame you for passing.

Re: Eaton HO52/72 4.10 gears

Hey Captainfab I'm very interested, how much to ship to Salt Lake City, Utah (via Greyhound?) or 84010 (Bountiful, Utah)?

So you are pretty sure just a pinion seal and I can drop it in and go? Wonder if anyone would want the 5.13 I've got?

Thanks,

Re: Eaton HO52/72 4.10 gears

Yes I am sure it will need a pinion seal. You can see where it has been leaking. The gear backlash feele real good, and I don't feel anything with any of the bearings. I wouldn't be afraid to install it and go somewhere.

I would rather not ship with Greyhound. That would be 70 mile round trip to drop it off. To the UPS terminal is about 10 miles. To ship it to you via UPS would be $107.00. The website said only 2 days to you. Let me know.

FYI Greyhound did have a weight limit of 75 or 100 pounds when I tried to ship one before.

Re: Eaton HO52/72 4.10 gears

Hey John the 3rd member arrived yesterday. Wife was having knee surgery so I didn't get to check it out until today. Just as described, verified the 4:10 ratio you are the man!

I'll be back in touch for some brake parts on my other 7dee2 project later.

Thank you sir,

Re: Eaton HO52/72 4.10 gears

I'm glad the 3rd member made it there OK. I was a little concerned shipping something that heavy.

I hope your wife is doing OK today. I've been thru the knee surgery thing with my wife 2x.
