Tubular Control Arms.

Can someone please explain the difference in all the Vendors upper and lower control arms. It looks like there is a big difference in price and in quality. For example on the uppers Air Ride has one of the lower prices at 400.00 a pair for their Strong Arms, then the lower arms are 600.00 a pair. Porterbuilt comes in a little higher but their not powdercoated. The ones from airbagit.com are 389.00 for a pair, same price for top and bottom. And what is with the lower ones from Hotchkis. Are they really 1800.00 a pair. Just looking for the best bang for the buck, but I dont want to risk my life on something that will fail at 75 mph on the freeway. Do they all correct the steering geometry the same.

tig welded or mig welded, hand built or mass produced, imported on made in the usa, what type of tubing is used. what grade hardware they send and engineering time (example of this is, did they just make a control arm with the exact geo of the factory arm, or does it correct any problems. like porterbuilts arms that move the wheel forward to correct the wheel alignment) those are all factors that go into the price of everyones parts.

if you look over reviews of each arm, they will probably match the price. the higher the review, the higher the price. good dont come cheap. cheap dont come good.

x2 on the above ^^^^ .... and I would personally stay away from any airbag it.com products. They are known to have very poor quality and I wouldn't want to trust my truck front-end with their arms.

Yeah stay far away from airbagit from what i have seen from them was questionable welds stuff not fitting and missing pieces from orders.Everyone else you listed are top companies well worth there prices.

You can get a full set of CPP arms from their eBay store for ~$700 shipped...

I went with ride tech tubular arms, great reputation, been around a long time, quality parts and plenty of local vehicles here in south florida with their parts on with zero issues.

What are you looking to/hoping to achieve with some new arms? Will you be running bags or coil springs?

There are a handful of good options out there, and they will all be an improvement over factory.

If you plan to keep the factory crossmember, we have a "Forward Arm" that moves the ball joint center-line forward. This ads some much needed caster and helps to center the wheel in the wheel well opening. We are even currently running a special this month.

Another feature of our control arms is that we use a delrin bushing. The delrin helps to minimize deflection that is common in the rubber bushings. It also makes installation/disassembly a bit easier, as the bushing is a machined fit where it does not need to be pressed into place.

i did quite a bit of research and decided when the time comes to order im going to go with a set of Michigan Metal Works arms. all their arms have cool/unique look to them, and i want to see what these "Jeebus" joints are all about. and the fact that you can have the joint cap engraved with whatever you want for no extra charge is a pretty sweet little option.

I checked out Michigan Metal Works. They have some interesting products, mostly made from flat stock. I emailed them to see if they have arms for 67-72 chevys. Have not heard back yet. That Jeebus Joint looks really interesting. It looks like they only have it available for the upper arm.

Yeah Michigan metal works is a good company with great parts hes more known in the mini truck world.Just give him time to answer back hes like nate always working on something new.

He makes a ton of different a-arms and one-off spindles for mini trucks and fullsize trucks.
His 1-ton to 3/4-ton a-arms are killer.

I got an email back from Taylor at Michigan Metal Works. They dont make anything specifically for 67-72 chevys, but he says most people that want them modify the 73-87 ones. What are the differences and what would be involved in converting some over.

My $.02 is to go with a product that is made for our year trucks. I've got Porterbuilt and CPP tubular arms and both are high quality. I prefer Nate's (Porterbuilt) because he's local and provides great customer service.

I would have to agree. I plan on runnin a dropmember on my 68 and MMW makes some arms for the DM. If i was runnin the stock crossmember my first choice would be Porterbuilt. The ONLY reason i plan on goin MMW is for the Jeebus joints and for asthetics, I like the look of the MMW arms. Its not like i think they make a better product or anything. From what ive heard, when it comes to quality you cant top PB.

The only difference in a 67-72 and 73-87 tubular (or plate steel) arm should be the ball joints. They are otherwise interchangeable...
