55 chevy new door steps

Hi, guys I finally got around to installing my cab corners along with new door steps. The new after market door steps has a welding tab on the front and rear edge, and my factory door steps has none.

My question is do I cut the welding tabs off, and match the stock door steps or, leave it on and plug weld it to the sides leaving the tab in place.Has any one ran into this same situation.What looks better cut or uncut. If I decide to leave the welding tab like it is, whats the best way to fill it to look as smooth as possible.

I would cut the cab to fit the new step and do a but weld. The problem with doing plug welds with the step overlapping the cab is water can get in and cause it to rust.

Thats what I was thinking as well.
I thought I would ask anyway you never know for sure. I know you and kabwe
have done a lot of metal work cab corners so on. I'm glad you guys are able to help with this kind of question.

I flatten the edges out then trimmed to fit like it came from the factory. On mine if I just trimmed them it would of left a gap on the ends.

Good Idea, I never thought of that. I was going to just cut the tab off.
I think that would work great.
