4X4 conversion question

Here is what I might have in the works:

Project 67 C10 2wd, 230 L6, 3 speed tranny.

I have a guy that wants to trade me a 74 K10 frame complete.

I am currently not in able to work on anything yet(waiting for Dr. to clear me).

I know I will need the tranny, t-case, axles, springs, hangers, motor crossmember.

Now for the questions(I'm sure there will be more):

What else do I need to take off the frame?
What do I use for a brakes MC?
What do I do for brake lines?
will the drive shafts work for the swap?
Will my headers for a 2wd 350ci work on a 4wd 350ci(swapping out the L6)?
Do I need to swap to a high hump floor(going with the 700R4 from th 74 frame)?
How do I mount the core support(it looks like the front spring hanger is part of core mount)?
Will the 74's tranny crossmember swap into the 67's frame?

Thanks,
Chris

What else do I need to take off the frame? i think you need a 350 67 4x4 crossmember.

What do I use for a brakes MC?go hydroboost IMO.

What do I do for brake lines? your 67 hard lines. 74 calipers and soft lines.

will the drive shafts work for the swap? doubt it. 700 r4 is long.

Will my headers for a 2wd 350ci work on a 4wd 350ci(swapping out the L6)? no the 2wd headers hit the shackles.

Do I need to swap to a high hump floor(going with the 700R4 from th 74 frame)? not sure.

How do I mount the core support(it looks like the front spring hanger is part of core mount)?use the 74 body mount spring hanger combo on the 67 frame horns.

Will the 74's tranny crossmember swap into the 67's frame? yes.

Thanks,
Chris

my best guesses.

Re: 4X4 conversion question

obijuan,

Can I use the engine craddle from the 74?

What year truck should I get the MC out of?

The 700r4 is what is currently in the 74's frame. I guess it wouldn't be to expensive to resize them.

Thanks,
Chris

Re: 4X4 conversion question

dont know if a 74 engine crossmember will swap in. try it.

hydroboost it came in 73-87 diesels and one tons. thats a starting place. do some research and see if its something youre interested in.

resize a 700r4? i dont follow your thought process. the actual transmission is longer than the other common th400, th350, sm465. what transfer case is on the 700?

Re: 4X4 conversion question

a 700 205 is not a factory combo so id be skeptical. it takes some thinking to do that, not your average american can handle such a thing.

Re: 4X4 conversion question

diy4x.com has some parts that will make this easier... not a vendor or sponsor of ours but prices seem fair and his stuff is very well built...

MC's will depend on the booster that you are running.
