Question New to Board: Please Comment on this Truck

New to the board, impressive place. Some of the talent and know how I see in the various threads here really floors me! I salute you fiine craftsmen!

I am in Pacific Northwest, but not real mechanically inclined so if I get a vintage rig somebody else will need to do the restoration and maintaining.

There's a very nice, clean and restored rig on the local Craigslist here. It's a lot of money. Please comment on restoration prices, average costs, etc. Fill me in on the basics too, I am new to this field.

See here - http://seattle.craigslist.org/see/cto/3207646954.html

Would a newby be better off with a conversion to a newer drivetrain for reliability's sake?

Thanks!

Re: New to Board: Please Comment on this Truck

restoration costs can vary so much. everything but the interior i put 12k into it. then the interior was another 5k id have to guess. plus another 2500 when we bought it in rough condition in wyoming. these are just rough estimates tho. and i did every single thing of the work all myself in our farm shop other than wrapping the back seat and side panels with the leather.

so either way youll probly spend some money on one. its worth every penny in my opinion. i drove mine around all day yesterday and it was so much fun.

heres some pictures of mine currently and one of what it looked like when we bought it. its still not finished. we still have the rollbar to install and paint the top.

I like it. It is usually always less expensive to buy one done. Especially if you would have to pay to have everything done on it. Check it over good to make sure no bondo or other headaches. Some people like to make a rig their own but I say have fun!

SamMargritz00.... what was wrong with your blazer when you got it? I think it looks good in the snow. I think I'm painting mine that blue. Don't mean to hijack this Gearsource.

Brian, no problem. The more and varied the discussion the better.

Re: New to Board: Please Comment on this Truck

btw welcome!!! youll get lots of info on here. but in that picture of the blue that was the good side. the passenger side was caved in and rusted. the tub was rusted really bad. the 350 was on its last leg. and the frame was twisted just a hair (probly which explains the caved in side.) decided to make it my new project car. it was really fun to drive then cause i didnt have to care about scratching the paint lol. now i have to keep it under control when going to dirt roads or where i park.

theres nothing more self gratifying seeing your project come together....but like stated above, it is in most cases cheaper to buy already done.

I don't have near that much money in mine, but easily more than that in blood, sweat and tears. So, really I think its up to you as to how much you want to pay. I've seen similar rigs go for that kind of money. A buddy of mine bought a clean stock original for 12K down in Tri-cities last year and I think it was a good deal for what he got.
