help w/ body mounts ??
All, need some input. I sat out to try to fix my lean after reading that it could be wore out body mounts. I was about to head to summit but decided to try to loosen them and see if I would need to replace bolts. Well I loosened a couple (it was not hard and the bolts looked perfectly fine) and removed one but after looking at it, I wonder if they need replacing at all. As you can see, the pics show how they look condition wise, they don’t look dry rotted or broken. Can you let me know if you think they need replacing or if maybe it could be something else? Thanks.

Doesn't look like ther is anything wrong with those...I don't think they are responsible for your lean.

They look fine. I probably wouldn't replace, but when you have half of the bushing missing like on mine, then you have good reason to replace.

Re: help w/ body mounts ??
These trucks are very common for having week springs. I've changed a boat load of springs out on these trucks for lean. A lot of people blame it on the side saddle gas tank. I'm not sure I agree. A lot I've changed have been high on the tank side. I had a '86 2wd that I knew for a fact that it never hauled more than a gallon of milk and never left the pavement and it leaned 2".

Re: help w/ body mounts ??
Thanks guys. I think I will get new springs. The mounts r $80 at summit and the spring r about $100, summit brand, so I'll try that option and see what happens.

Don't be suprised if it still leans..I have new springs, body mounts, shocks. New leafs and shocks in back, and it still leans about 3/4".

Re: help w/ body mounts ??
My lean is in the front drivers side..I have shimmed it at the radiator support and less at the cab, to kind of blend it out. But it left me with the bumper looking crooked because the body is shimmed but the frame didn't move where the bumper bolts up.
So I'm going to try to adjust the bumper. If that doesn't work , I am going to try to shim it at the coil spring, and remove all the body shims. |
