Re: Cummins conversion kits?

good choice. ill have to ask around here. theres a guy here thats swapped 12 valves into 8 or 9 of his ranch trucks that are all 1980-1986 year range.

but when i looked into it when i wanted to swap a 24V into a 82 crew cab long box i found a company that made all the mounts you need to do the swap. but i dont remember anymore what their name was.

Re: Cummins conversion kits?

There are companies that make bolt in cross members with the mounts, but I dont remember the names of them off the top of my head. There is one guy that sells mounts that will bolt to the motor that uses all the factory mounts and they sell a cross member that replaces the factory one. But I've noticed a lot of people have firewall clearance issues with that kit.

Re: Cummins conversion kits?

Fordcummins, autoworld, patc. I used patc mounts they are designed to used factory isolaters. About 1.5 inches between firewall and motor. You'll need a crossmember autoworlds is nice but they are proud of it so be prepared to drop some coin on it. I used the 47 dodge trans because I can get a rebuilt one for less than the adapter for the 400.

Re: Cummins conversion kits?

Fordcummins.com has some nice adapters. Something like 700$ and 500$ for the custom flywheel for it. Look close at the adapter you choose some offset the trans like 20 degrees I seen a pic of one installed and wasn't pretty.

Re: Cummins conversion kits?

I'm not into diesels at all so I don't mind taking the hit on what might be a stupid question so here goes.... what's wrong with the dodge transmission and why not just use it? In my mind all of that low end torque made by the cummins would shell a perfectly good 400 in a very short time. As previously stated Im not even remotely into diesels and on top of that I bleed bowtie so the swap would have never occurred to me.

Re: Cummins conversion kits?

look over at the 4bt swaps site lots of info there. Then find tn diesel conversions, scott a member on the site runs it. He has got a bolt in set of mounts for these trucks. There is some minor hammer work on the firewall lip that needed done on mine, but I built all my mounts on a 2wd ton. hope this helps.

Nothing at all wrong with using a Dodge TF727, A618, 47RH, 47RE or 48RE.

A well built TH400 will hold up to a stock to lightly modified Cummins 6BT with a high dollar custom built torque converter, But without a overdrive or lock-up converter its not a very good choice.

Re: Cummins conversion kits?

I think you just need a sae bellhousing adapter for the cummins. They had them on the bigger trucks that had the cummins in them.

The Allison 1000 used behind Duramax or 8.1 BBC have a "standard" Chevy bell housing bolt pattern.
Destroked has adapters for this http://www.destroked.com/prod_adapters.php

The Allison 1000 used in other application have a #3 SAE bell housing bolt pattern.

Bolting it up is the easy part, Buying a controller to make it shift is EXPENSIVE!
Heres one from Destroked http://www.destroked.com/prod_electronics.php

Re: Cummins conversion kits?

The only transmission That I can get to stay together in my dually is this..

http://www.atsdiesel.com/ats2/produc...ge/use/3092218

I beat on it hard, tow stupid weights, and generally drive it like a ricer. My motor runs pretty good too.

47RE or 48RE, The TCM & harness can be had out of a 96-02 Dodge fairly cheap ($300 usually).

Ive done a few of these swaps, Do yourself a favor & buy a entire Dodge diesel truck thats been wreaked, Fab the Dodge motor mounts in, You get the engine, engine wiring, trans, trans wiring, trans cooler lines, radiator, CAC, down pipe etc.etc....All those little thing will add up fast if bought new/separate.
