Tilt Column help
I have a 71-72 tilt column taken all the way apart, all parts powdercoated and ready to put back together, problem is I took it apart 3 months ago and took the parts to get coated. I thought I would be smart and take some pics with my phone but as luck would have it, my phone died and got replaced so I lost the few pictures I had while doing the disassembly. I have slept to many times and now need some help, does anyone have an exploded view of a tilt column?

There is a good one in either the service manual, or assembly manual. If you dont have either book ill post up a pic. Its kinda small, but at least it will show you which parts go in which order. Did mine a couple months ago, hardest part was gettin the plate between the column and the shifter bowl aligned. Took awhile to get puppy in, very specific orientation, and it is tight. Locking paws was another challenge

Here is an exploded view of the truck tilt column. I have a more readable version that I can e-mail to you if you want to PM your e-mail address to me. I had to resize it in order to post it and it lost a lot of clarity in the process.

If you dont fully seat the shifter bowl (housing) onto the lower column, you will be able to rotate the plate over the lower column. Just remember, start lower right corner of plate first, in the longer slot. I think the longer slot is the lower one. BUT, you will still have to seat the bowl further down when finished getting the plate on. I believe i used a large socket, to clear the column, and tapped it down. There is a very specific oreintation to that plate, and there is a front and back Or it might have been a piece of copper pipe Good luck, that is the hardest part of the tilt
