np205 figure8>round pattern conversion

I'm wondering if its possable to convert a fig 8 pattern to the round pattern? Not presently having a case to look at, is it simply the bolt hole pattern that is different or is there extensive machine work around the mounting location?

no, the figure 8 case doesnt have enough material to have a round machined face. really different castings. however. there is an adapter plate at NWF.

Re: np205 figure8>round pattern conversion

Thanks-

Adapter has become a 4-letter word to me. I't is now my obsession to peice together my truck with all OEM parts. In the meantime, I'm buying stock in advance adapters.

I'm considering running my current setup until I work all the bugs out. With all the changes I am making, it might work out better. I have a fairly new 350 with edlbrock pro-flo and 700r4. Thinking about running a np205. I think the 700 and 205 are both 27 spline. In the meantime, I'll continue looking for the NV4500/205-241 combo and drop it in later.

I just found a 4500/205 set (round pattern) for $1300 w/ bellhousing.

I'm now trying to decipher what he means by "desiel" input?

He wont ship- so I have to decide if I want to make the 600 mile drive

Diesel input most likely means that it is a Dodge Cummins nv 4500 front half installed in the g
m nv4500. What this means for you is an input gear swap to mate up to you GM 350.

Hmmm..sounds like another "adapter". Might have to pass.

Here's the ad:

I was going to use this nv4500/205 combo in my cummins conversion but its the wrong year for the cummins bellhousing. It has the diesel input, behousing, shifter, round 32spline chevy 205 tcase. This trans has the 6:34 first gear. Its still in the truck right now." Quote

Re: np205 figure8>round pattern conversion

It means it has the bigger tranny input shaft, not t-case. It's been a bit since I looked at this stuff, but IIRC, Cummins input is 1 1/4" where as others are 1 1/8". Also early GM 4500s weren't compatible with Cummins, but after 96 they were. Bells would bolt up as well as inputs.

I don't remember which one it was, but one of the 205 cases could be drilled and tapped to the other pattern. It's easy to tell if it can or not, it will have the machined flats, this is where the bolt holes would go....
