Re: Cubber's Build Thread

Only rust is in rockers and very outside of cab supports. Purple had to go. I have already gone through the suspension, added the square tubing rear trailing arms, 2/4 drop with CPP springs, five lug disc/drums (power), and power steering.

Re: Cubber's Build Thread

I plan to keep the I6 (250), but build it up. Been surfing inliners and reading Santucci's power manual and getting myself all worked up. Gonna repaint the truck again, probably a Hot Rod Flatz color, and get the doors painted up like the trucks that my Pa (grandfather) used in his tomato business up in the mountains of East Tn.

Yeah. The cab of the orange one was rusted out in the floor and above the windshield. I know some think the fleetside is more desireable, but I really like the stepside. An old friend sold me the stepside on the cheap, so it has sentimental value as well. The orange one was a good project, it just needed more body work, and I have not done much of it.

Re: Cubber's Build Thread

Ok. So we went to a cruise in tonight, and I had a guy offer to buy my inline 6 for $250, so I'm at a crossroad. I can have a mean small block for less than I was gonna spend building the inline, and there is a HUGE difference in parts availability/compatibility. I guess I can run with the herd mechanically, and still be an individual cosmetically. I would love some advice on where to get a good crate engine. So far I like the one JEGS has-290 hp for $2k, free shipping. They also have one that makes 260 hp for $1500. Wonder what the difference is internally?? Lookin for ideas here. Also, dude isn't interested in my power steering setup, so I can probably sell it and my HEI and get a few more bucks towards the small block (don't worry admins, I will do it appropriately if I advertise here- been meaning to join, just haven't gotten to it yet). Decisions, decisions.....

Re: Cubber's Build Thread

Now I've found a 300+ hp long block that they actually run and re check with a 5yr/50k mi. warranty for about $1700 shipped. It's from a company called Motor Works in Spokane, WA. Anybody ever heard of these guys?

Re: Cubber's Build Thread

I like the numbers from Motor works, I went to school with a guy that lived across the street from me he built about a 65 dart 6cyl and smoked most everyone. That causes quite a conversation piece when you open the hood.

Yeah, its hard to decide. The six is cool, but you end up spending so much to get it to act like a v8 and sound like a v8, and you can HAVE a v8 lots cheaper.

At a point like this I write out a list of pros, cons and what I really WANT. Really WANT usually wins.

They cover the shipping from Spokane to Tennessee? Is there a core charge on top of the $1700.00? I have been looking at a company local to me that offers a 275HP/350 (they say 290 if you add a 4bbl, and headers), it is just under $1700.00, but there is a $500.00 core charge, and I have to pick it up. If I could get free shipping to Buffalo, I could figure it out from there...

There's nothing that I saw about a core charge on that particular engine, but some they sell did have core charges. The engine actually costs $1477, then shipping ranges from $175-$210 depending on what option you choose for delivery.

Thanks, I bookmarked their website. Will call them for more details when I am ready to pull the trigger.

I emailed motor works, and they quoted me $200.00 for freight to Buffalo, no core charge!!! Thanks so much for sharing, I think I will start a post to see if anyone has dealt with them, and what their experiences have been.

Re: Cubber's Build Thread

Just found out they are planning an 86th birthday for my Pa near the end of March or first part of April. Since my truck is kind of a tribute to him, I thought that would be a good time to show it to him (if he was able, I'd just give it to him so he could take me on rides like he did when I was a kid), which means I'll have to drive it to Florida, where he lives now. 6 months, Oh my, better get started!!!

Re: Cubber's Build Thread

Got an email from Brother's today, they are running a good sale till the end of October. getting my list together, think I am going to go ahead and splurge on A/C!! Talked to the Chevy dealership, trying to see if they can get close in price to what I can get a GMPP crate motor from summit delivered for.

Re: Cubber's Build Thread

HOLD UP, CHANGE OF PLANS!!!!! Had a guy lined up to buy my 250 engine, and he backed out. I did some soul searching, and I just cant part with the six. Just ordered some valves for air ride from DLOE65, another member. If you need some valves, he has a cool product. He also cut me a deal on a heat plate for the Offenhauser intake I'm gonna get soon. After all that, he's nice enough to go over to CW Moss and pick me up some lights I was wanting and ship them with my order. Cool to get some help from another site member. I know there's not enough pics in this thread, but it seems like I'm the only one who ever looks at it, so I guess it's more like a diary..........
Dear Diary,
I promise to post pics of some parts as they roll in, and I hope I find some cool stuff at the Redneck Rumble swap meet on Sat. lol
