Tires, P vs LT?

I'm trying to replace the Bias Plys on my '64 C10 with radials. It looks from my research that 215/75R15 is a pretty close match. However that tire is available in P(passenger) & LT(light truck) types.

Does anyone know if it matters which I put on my truck? I ask because it looks like a lot of smaller trucks & SUVS(which are a closer match in size & weight to my truck) come with P tires. And P tires are both more widely available and cheaper than LT tires.

While I will be hauling things with this truck from time to time, I'm not going to be doing any towing and am unlikely to ever load it even close to it's capacity.

I think the LT has a heavier load rating. also it isnt made for performance, but you may not care about that.

I would look at the load rating on the truck and be real honest with yourself about what you will do with it. Dont buy more tire than you your load capacity, you wont justify the price. If gonna carry weight in it often the extra side wall might be piece of mind if, but if you are gonna throw a 4 wheeler in the every couple of weekends or a load of dirt through town once a year a lighter sidewall will be just fine as long as it is within reason of your load rating.

Ok P rated tire will be 4 ply tire it will give a better ride.Lt can be 6 or 8 and 10 ply they will ride ruff.Lt tire will need 45 psi at least. If you load them up you can run 80 psi. That being said if you have a 1/2 ton p rated tires will work for most people. But If you treat your 1/2 ton like its 3/4 and load it up all the time get the Lt's they will last longer and you will just have to live with the stiff ride.

Pretty good advice, though 45 lbs sounds high to me.
As long as you buy tires that will meet your trucks weight rating & inflate them properly, don't worry about it. I've run both LT and P series tires on my Cherokee and agree, the LTs rode stiffer. P series doesn't have as much flat protection or sidewall beef, though.

Call a good tire shop, not a Big O or a Les Schwab but a real good tire shop in your area, and ask for their advice. Then buy the tires the recommend from them.

well I work at a tire shop if you run Lt tires 40 to 45 psi is what you will need to run in them to get good wear out of them. You may use a little less in the rear.
