the hinges are off 90's model Buick LeSabre. i have about 5 hours of time in this setup and it looks killer. here are some pics.

That looks great man, good job!, just one question, how do you pop the hood open?
Also, how much does the hood rub the grille? I noticed those rags between the bottom of the hood and the grille.

No, two questions... how does it latch shut? Wait, three... does the LeSabre hinge let the hood kick forward enough without modification? It looks like you've got some pads between your hood and grille shell. Is that just part of ironing out the mechanism or???

I spent a while in the garage this evening working on hinges as well... only I was shaving the hinge springs in favor of gas struts. I only got one side done-- it needs a rework on the lower bracket and then I'll post some pics. The struts I used are in the book as '94 Plymouth Laser hatch struts. They were $15/each at AutoZone and have a lifetime warranty. With only one strut and zero springs, it was able to hold the hood wherever I moved it to. With both struts in place I suspect it will go ahead and push the hood open when I pop the latch.

the hood latches in the stock assembly, the hinge pulls the hood foward then up and over. i have to modify the stops on the hinge to keep it from sitting on the grille. it barely skims it.

I dont understand that, does the hood come up. Like raise, and then swing out over top of the grill and stuff? Are those all stock parts, just modified to fit on your application? I was wanting to try this mod, and wondered if there was a kit or all custom. Thanks.

i have a total of $30 in the setup. and that was the hinges at a local scrap yard. only other parts i used was some 2" angle iron and some 3/8" flat bar. the hood in the rear is held down with a bungee cord for now. i need to fab some catches for it. but that shouldnt be a problem.

somebody will be marketing this soon..heh

lotik, that is awesome!!!. I have also seen this done with older Saab 900 hood hardware. I like the Buick idea better though.

That is GREAT! I don't know if it is different mounting than the '90's LaSabre, but my parents have a '88 LaSabre an the hood opens the same way. You obviously spent a lot of time figuring out how that was going to work, but it looks like it was time well spent!!!!

yeah, my first car was an '89 Lesabre and it did that, only Buicks did it. as i remember there were little wheels on the back of the hood that went into tracks that were attached to the fender, and when you pushed the wheels back all the way it would catch. I remember when you would hit the hood release, the front would come up a little, and you had to pull it up some, then lift the back end of the hood so it cleared the grille. that setup looks real trick, good luck!
