My 55

Hey thought I would share some pics of my new toy. Its a 55 second series with the stock 235 and a 4 speed automatic! my wifes uncle used this truck as a shop truck in the san jose area and his dad bought it brand new. When I got it it had a huge steel bumper on the front for pushing cars so I found a stock one. Just recently foundput the rear bumper our off a k. [/IMG]

Welcome.
Looks like a real clean truck. Neat that it's been in the family since new.

Re: My 55

Thank you! Yeah it s in pretty good shape it has some battle scars from being used like a truck though. As far as plans for it I think I want to leave it how it is put some white walls on it I thought about lowering it but still unsure .

Re: My 55

As long as it is mechanically sound, just drive it. I wouldn't change a thing.

Re: My 55

Great looking truck. It has the engine and tranny combo that I wish mine had. I vote yes on the whitewalls, then just drive it.

I'm running 235/75/15 tires on 8 inch Corvette wheels. My whitewalls are actually Portawalls from Lucas Classic Tires.

Southern yellow, much denser than western white most people think of.

I'd drive it just as it is, except for wheel and tire change if you want to, as an original family survivor. Might play with the ride height within the restrictions of the original suspension. Can you post a pic of the back bumper, and what is the "k" you refer too?

I haven't had any issues with them but I installed them my self. The instructions say to let a "professional" install them but I doubt that you could find anyone who would know how to do it. I worked at a Pure Oil service station in the fifties and installed many sets of portawalls back then, so this was definitely not my first installation. These new ones are designed better than the originals that I installed back then, and they look more like a real whitewall. You can't use them on low profile tires, and you must keep the tires pumped up good or the fronts will bow out at the bottom.

Looks like you removed the door lettering from the truck. I liked it, the truck looks great without it, but it would have been a difficult decision for me to remove it. I'm even considering having the name of the station I worked at put on my truck and then aged to look original. I drove a new 56 TF that belonged to a customer back then. How many of us can say that they have driven a new TF?

Re: My 55

That picture was actually when I first got it. I took some acetone and got the black paint off to show the original shop letters. You csn kinda see the front bumper that was on it was just a steel plate. So the picture I first posted is how it looks now letters and all no way I would get rid of em

Re: My 55

'49 Chrysler bumper-first Bartens sytle bumper...lol. Nice truck/great history. I'm not real big on the wide whites but,on the black and white truck,I can't imagine a better application. The truck is cool, but kinda sorta boring. The WWWswould ring it alive. Then just d-r-ive it! (maybe stick a set of '55 car wheel covers on 'er,too)
