Engine rebuild or not
All, I have the engine out of the 49 PU and I think its a newer engine than original. How should I determine wether it needs to be rebuilt or not?

Re: Engine rebuild or not
Well, what is your intention for the truck?
If you are going to put it back pretty much stock with a nice paint job and nice interior I'd look into rebuilding it. If it still has the bellhousing and flywheel in it you can probably run a compression test on it sitting on the floor by pulling the plugs and hooking battery to it. Then compare the compression to what it should be and compare the compression on each cylinder with the other five. It may not need a full rebuild with a new bore job, new pistons and having the crank turned. You might be able to reuse the pistons and do a ring and valve job with new rod and main bearings and have an engine that should be good for a lot of years of driving. |

Re: Engine rebuild or not
I'll need to put the belljousing back on to test the compression. I plan to rebuild the truck frame up.
