Had to give my "toys"away.

Age finally caught up with me (COPD-smoking).After being disabled the last 4 years, I gave my cars and trucks to my 3 kids.
I gave the 71pickup & 56 car to my son (orangeuavol) so he could pass them down to his son.
Gave the 65 GMC pickup to my youngest daughter and her husband. No pictures yet.
Gave the wife's (she passed away 4 years ago) 99 Cavalier(30,000 miles) to my oldest daughter.
A word of advice to you young guys--quit smoking!!!!.
You can look up photos of them by searching under my user name--jhow66 (77 years old now).
By the way the 56 chevy will be 56 years old the 12th of this month. I gave $2,675.00 for it brand new.
Good luck to everyone as I have enjoyed my time here.

Re: Had to give my "toys"away.

jhow66, Good luck to you. Our thoughts are with you and wish you the very best. I was a heavy smoker, started as a kid while doing farm work. Finally quit smoking (cold turkey, no pills, patches, or BS), having my last cigarette on April 29, 1979! (I'm now 58 and in reasonably good health!!) There's lots of information and advice on this site, but your advice for the younger guys to quit smoking is probably the best I've seen in a long time. Thank you! don

You don't have to leave us, hope they care for them and enjoy them like you have. I agree i quit smoking about 5 years ago cold turkey i just ran out and didn't buy any more. I tell people all the time it's possible without and drugs, gum etc. if you really want to just quit first few days are hard gets better with time. Good luck God bless.

Howard, We all wish you the very best. I am sure your family members will take very good care of the vehicles you passed on to them. I always liked your Black SWB truck.

Hang in there and God Bless you and your family.

Sorry to hear of your health issues. It is good to see you pass down your "toys" to your family. I hope they value these vehicles as much as you do. Hoping for the best.

Good deal on quitting. I quit 3 years ago and used the patch. I don't think it's important how you quit smoking....just as long as you are making the effort to do so. There's no way I could ever smoke again...my wife is a Respiratory Therapist now and would kill me...for real!

Re: Had to give my "toys"away.

Sorry to hear you had to give up your toys. At least you could keep them in the family. I smoked as a young man, but thankfully my wife got me to quit when our first child was born. We have all done things through the years, then looked back and wondered WHY? Some things just left worse consequences than others. Hang in there man, and thanks for telling the young guys your story.

Re: Had to give my "toys"away.

Mike thanks for the photos as I work off a wireless eeepad and do not have them down loaded.
Also thanks to everyone for the good wishes. I quit smoking 10 years ago. I believe that is what has given me the extra time. I was supposed to have been 6 ft. under 4 years ago as I was sent home from the hospital under the care of hospice. Fooled them abit as my youngest daughter and her husband took me in and cared for me for a year and 3 months. Now I am back home and take care of myself mostly. My son build his home next door on one of my lots and checks on me everyday,my girls buy my food for me and take me to doctor. I have one of Scooter Stores battery powered chairs that I get around in. Been trying figure how to soup it up abit (lol). Thanks again as I will keep checking in to see wats going on. Re: Had to give my "toys"away.

Hey,you can be as long winded here as you want. You've been here for 10 years and if you hadn't spoke up,no one would ever have known about your health. What good is that when you have a whole big group of people who care about each other? Kinda like your "other" family. You've kept your rides nice for a long time, only to pass them on for what I am sure will continue to be a long time. The legacy I see here is one of a true enthusiast. Your son will continue that legacy. Too many investor-types into our vehicles these days and it's good to know there will always be true enthusiasts to carry on. I hope you enjoy the passenger seat for a long time. I'm sure your son would be proud to run ya 'round.

Howard, I hate to hear about the health problems. It's good to see you kept the toys in the family. Hopefully, I'll see them at some local shows/cruise-ins.

Feel free to stop in here and chat any time.
