Serpentine setup

I am putting in a 350ci/290 hp with GM Performance serp setup (no A/C). Crank pulley is laying on crossmember when we lower the engine. Why? Using same mount location. This has been a nightmare from the start. Any help appreciated.
Thanks,
Dave

Re: Serpentine setup

Just engine for now. The 3 speed manual needs some more work on it. No pictures for now.

Re: Serpentine setup

Are you sure you have the angle right without the trans and tans mount? Don't know about your year but in my 72 it fit just fine.

Re: Serpentine setup

Thats what i was wondering if since he didnt have the trans in if he had it to level and not angled down in the back or wrong engine stands if it didnt have a small block v8 in it before.

Re: Serpentine setup

We took a 307 out. I think it might not be sitting right without the transmission. Will try again tomorrow.

Re: Serpentine setup

Got the transmission and motor installed. Crank pulley sitting right on top of front crossmember.Still no idea why. Thinking about taking crossmember out and cutting and grinding. This really has got me stumped !!!

Re: Serpentine setup

I'm using CCP tubular motor mounts. I know others have used stock mounts.

I'm using new motor mounts like the original 307 had. Also stock stands, it has one bolt thru the mounts to the block. This has my brother and I totally frustrated. Still trying to find my camera.

The 307 uses a 6" diameter balancer and the newer 350 lwp engines use an 8" balancer, but I don't think that that is where the problem is, as I have seen quite a few lwp sbc's installed in 67-72 trucks. Are the stands locate in the regular sbc location?

Re: Serpentine setup

Ooops i thought the 307 had the 8 inch but anyways it should still clear his crossmember. I've seen lots of 67-72's with newer sbc in them with serpentine setup with no clearance probs too.

Re: Serpentine setup

Looks like I'm going to need a new crossmember too then Mine is pretty bent up. I was hoping once I saw your pics that they were all like that haha. I'll see if I can grab a pic of mine later tonight. I have a later model sbc in as well and I think the PO bent it down to fit it in.
