Question Putting a plate behind the steering question?

I am putting a 4" lift on one of my Blazers(1986) and was wondering if any of you guys have a picture or info on building a backing plate(brace) behind the steering sector so the frame doesn't crack.

What size of plate?? 1/4"?? On the inside of the frame?? Just bolted or welded also??

Thanks in advance.
