Vette T56 For my 74
I'm collecting parts for an ls swap for my 74, and came across a smoking deal on a Vette T56 from a 2000 C5. What all is involved on making this tranny work in my 74?
If it is worth it imma get the box tomorrow after work. Posted via Mobile Device

If you plan on a GenIII swap and want a manual trans, I'd do it. I'd imagine custom trans crossmember & mount, as well as fabbed driveshaft are on the to-do list. I'm afraid I don't know how or where the shifter will come through in the truck.

If it is out of a 2000 Corvette, it is a transaxle. You would want one from an F-body, SSR, or CTS-V.

Another thing to consider for a t56 that will swap (a pre 98, LT1 style f-body would be ideal choice).... What gearing do you have? OE T56's typically have a .50 6th gear which might not work well in a brick shaped vehicle w/o the right rear tire OD & gear combo.

Re: Vette T56 For my 74
I was afraid of the transaxle bit, I wasn't sure if it could be seperated.
As far as gearing / tire combo, its a 3.42 rear and by the time the ls swap happens it'll have 275/55/17 which height wise is the same as factory, just a bit wider. Thanks guys. Posted via Mobile Device

c4's don't have t56's they have zf's.. which is a good or bad thing.

Of course, rowing through the gears is way more fun vs an auto (until you're stuck in a traffic jam ). I just re-read your initial post & noticed it would be swapped w/a LS motor. Search for a 98-02 f-body trans.
