Re: 16" 8 Lug Steel Wheels ...

I have two sets I'd be willing to sell. One of them is the stock set with the nubs for hubcaps and the other set is a later model set without the nubs. Both sets are very nice. I have the stock type on my truck now, they're painted a dark metallic silver, the only downside to that is the local tire place wants to charge me 120 bucks to put my tires on another set of rims...

If you're interested in those let me know. What kind of price are you thinking?

I think shipping will run about 80-120 bucks, the last set I shipped was an aluminum set for 80.

You can get these brand new from Summit, they are made by Wheel Vintiques. Not really that expensive and I believe they have free shipping.

I have an original set on my '68 c20 with good tires on them. Im more than willing to let them go at a fair price. I dont have pics at the moment, but Im sure the shipping from san diego would kill the deal.

Re: 16" 8 Lug Steel Wheels ...

If some technical advise would be welcome, I went down this road a few years ago. My '71 GMC 3/4 ton had 16.5" split rims when I bought it. I wanted to both get away from the hassles of split rims, and wanted more commonly available 16" tires (and so my wheels and tires would interchange with my 1985 Chevy 3/4 ton.

What I learned is all GMC/Chevy 8-lug 16" wheels were the same from 1973 to 1988 and will allow use of your original hubcaps. Definitely get photos from the seller. I had all kinds of people contacting me with Dodge wheels, post 1988 8-lug wheels, etc. While they all seem to fit, they won't all hold a factory hubcap.

When I did finally find a seller (which was a lot harder than I expected, but guess even 1988 is getting pretty uncommon now as far as what's on the road), he assured me he had what I needed, already dismounted.... so I drove my Lincoln. When I got there he had five NOS post-1988 wheels. He said he felt bad because he essentially "decided for me" that these were better without telling me after I had stressed exactly what I needed. He pulled five correct wheels and tires off a 1985 Suburban right there in the yard and gave me those, but I had to find a way to cram them in the Town Car. Totally unprepared for that.

At any rate, long story, but lesson is a lot of 16" 8-lug wheels will "fit".... make certain the seller has what you "want"!:

16.5" split rim next to later 1973-1988 8-lug 16" GM wheel.

Before and after.

With hubcaps.

Re: 16" 8 Lug Steel Wheels ...

Thanks -- I love my truck!

I don't know that that's exactly what you're looking for, but I hope it saves you some of the grief I went through when I did mine.

By the way, I see your location now -- I'm in southern Chester County. I have a friend here locally that dabbles in these. I'll see if he knows the whereabouts of some wheels for you if ones like mine are what you're looking for. Definitely not something you want to have to ship. I finally found mine after posting a WTB on Craigslist.

Re: 16" 8 Lug Steel Wheels ...

I am sure some of you have been steered wrong in the past, but these are correct wheels. Not 16.5 because i looked myself to find these. I bought one set to use on my 07 duramax... Didnt fit with 4 wheel disc brakes though... The other set is on my truck now, and they are definately the correct rims.

Before i take pictures, are you looking for the ones that accept stock hubcaps, or the later style?

Re: 16" 8 Lug Steel Wheels ...

ok, I got some pictures for you. I found 3 of these in REALLY nice shape, the fourth one took some serious wire wheeling to get it clean and there is some minor pitting on it. I took a picture of that rim as well. The other three all look like the front , Nice, rim. On the plus side, I haven't balanced my tires and they rode great all the way from MN to wyoming, so I know they aren't bent.

The set without the hubcap knobs are just as nice as these, all four of those are really nice, no blasting was needed when I got them, the paint is a bit faded on them, but they are every bit as clean as the nice wheels on my truck now.

Exclamation Re: 16" 8 Lug Steel Wheels ...

Thanks. REVISION ... I found out I need 8" wide rims or wider. So that would be 16", 8 lug, 8" wide minimum, that will hold my 3/4 ton dog dish hubcaps, and if I could find them in white ... all the better.

To justify shipping costs for these bears, I have to buy the right wheels.

Thanks for looking so far.
