NP205 Transfer Case Brkt. ?
Hopefully will be able to remove the transfer and trans (sm465) tomorrow from my '71 4x4. Removing the sm465/np205 and swaping to TH350/np205 auto setup. After removing the transfer case to frame bracket on the RH side I noticed it has a crack thru both bolt holes. Apparently cracked years ago , and it was welded on top of the bracket so the bracket to frame mating area is smooth. After doing a search I read that the General quit using the frame bracket in '72? I don't do a lot of off-road driving but usually keep any thing I remove in place when I go back together. Been thinking perhaps cut and weld a doubler plate to help strengthen the bracket. Is this an issue or can I leave it off?

Re: NP205 Transfer Case Brkt. ?
I don't think they quit using that bracket in 72 because I know I've removed one of those from a 73.
If I'm not mistaken that bracket was only used on the 4 spds. The autos had a rod that went from the t-case to I believe the bell housing. But I'm really not familiar with the earlier trucks. Fwiw my 78 does not have that bracket on the t-case. |

Re: NP205 Transfer Case Brkt. ?
Don't have any knowledge at all on the auto 4x4's as I am doing this swap from a standard to auto. Any idea of what the rod looks like and just how it attaches or how I can search for a picture to look at? Maybe I could fab something if I had an idea of where to start.

Hey Ironhorse,
Have a read of what Larry is saying here http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...d.php?t=491001 From memory the consensus was leave it off. Hope this helps.

Re: NP205 Transfer Case Brkt. ?
Thanks Billhilly, there was some good reading there. Seems as if the concenus is NO bracket and NO rod for either 4x4 set-up std. or auto.
