Re: 69-72 Blazer/Truck Yard Sale

Have you looked into what went on with the 383? Just froze from sitting? Seized up while running? Have you pulled the oil pan or heads? I'm really interested, but would like more info. What heads are on it? Was this a crate long block? Have any idea how many miles are on it or it's history? I'd buy this if I had more info. Thanks

Re: 69-72 Blazer/Truck Yard Sale

I believe it froze from sitting. I bought the truck from VTBlazer and the motor was mounted in it, ready to be hooked up. But I believe it sat for a while (few years?) indoors. Then it came here and sat outside for a couple of months. I pulled the spark plugs and shot penetrant into the holes. Then I put a wrench on the crankshaft bolt and it snapped the bolt off. I have not pulled the oil pan or heads. Not sure of what heads are on it. I'll have a look. No idea of mileage or history. I had limited conversations with Kurt (the guy I bought it from) and now I can't reach him with questions. He's unresponsive.

Re: 69-72 Blazer/Truck Yard Sale

As with most of these parts, it came sitting in the bed of the Blazer I bought from VTBlazer. It wasn't hooked up, and I don't have a running motor to hook it up to, so I don't know if it works. I can only assume it does because Kurt had intended on installing it in the truck. He just never got around to it.

I do not have the shroud. I don't know if it was hooked up for A/C.

Let me know.

I'll get you a shipping quote and if you get it and it doesn't work (which I don't think will be the case), I'll refund your $$.

Re: 69-72 Blazer/Truck Yard Sale

Thanks for the reply. I know Kurt and can speak with him about this if I need to. I'd like to get this from you now that I know it wasn't locked up while running. I see you're in Wilmington, that's not too far for me. Could you post a picture of the engine? I would like to see how "weathered" it is.

Re: 69-72 Blazer/Truck Yard Sale

I don't know for sure it wasn't locked up while running or not, but Kurt doesn't seem like the kind of guy that would have mounted up and sold me a trashed motor. So I figured it just sat too long. Here are some pics. Let me know when you'd like to come up. I work close to home and am self employed so my schedule is flexible. I have an engine hoist here as well. Do you need the heads and valve covers too? Or just the block? Pics from today…

I thought about this more today and have decided to let it pass. If you were local I'd come over and pull the heads/pan to have a better grasp on what I might be getting into. Thanks again for your replies.
